ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Pick

Prograis landing a hard right hand
Joel Diaz Jr. vs. Regis Prograis: This weekend the newest inductees will be enshrined into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Showtime will air a fight card from upstate New York to accompany the ceremonies.  That card will be another one of Showtime's prospect heavy ShoBox: The New Generation and two undefeated prospects will be going head to head.  The main event of that card will feature Joel Diaz Jr. (23-0, 19 KO) and Regis Prograis (19-0, 16 KO) and they are scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior welterweight division.  Both men have perfect records and good power numbers but neither has really faced any notable opponents, although Prograis' resume does read better than Diaz's does.  Diaz is a 25-year-old orthodox fighter who has shown plenty of power.  He has also shown a very aggressive style and pretty quick hands.  When Diaz does throw his jab it acts as a measuring stick for a short left hook and good right hand, both of which can do damage.  Diaz also has some bad habits though, most notably is the way he squares up to his opponent on the inside and at times he will get wild with his punches.  Prograis is three years older than Diaz and he works out of the southpaw stance.  Prograis likes to use his jab to score and set up his power punches and he has shown very good power throughout his career.  He has a patient yet stalking style and has a heavy left hand that can do serious damage and is very accurate.  He can also do damage with his right hook and he doesn't get as wild with his punches like Diaz does.  This should be a good fight if for nothing more than the fact that both prospects will be battling to remain perfect.  Since Diaz is so aggressive he should get out to a quick start but the more accurate punchers of Prograis will start to do a lot of damage in the middle rounds.  It will be a close fight but one that Prograis wins with a majority decision.
