PBC on FS1 Quick Pick

Redkach landing an uppercut
Ivan Redkach vs. Argenis Mendez: On Tuesday night the PBC will return to Fox Sports 1 with a main event featuring two fighters who both badly need a win.  Those fighters are Ivan Redkach (20-2-1, 16 KO) and Argenis Mendez (23-5-1, 12 KO) and they are scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior welterweight division.  At one point in time both men were viewed as good prospects, especially Redkach, but that time has passed.  Redkach is 2-2-1 in his last five fights and his two wins came against limited opposition.  Mendez has done even worse, going 2-3 in his last five fights and he is coming off back-to-back losses.  Now, both in their thirties, each fighter needs a win to get a streak going in order to avoid being labeled "gatekeeper."  Redkach is a southpaw with pretty good pop on his punches.  He doesn't make very good use of his jab and often throws a lazy straight left hand.  The punches Redkach does throw well are his left hook and uppercuts.  Both of those punches can do serious damage but Redkach isn't considered the killer he once was.  On defense he doesn't use his feet very well and will often eat plenty of punches which is part of the reason he isn't considered a high level prospect anymore.  Mendez is an orthodox fighter who likes to fight with his lead hand very low.  He jabs from his hip and is the type of fighter who likes to rely on his reflexes, even when they're slowing down.  He does have a good jab he uses a lot and at times will turn it over into a left hook.  Behind the left hand comes a decent straight right hand but the problem for Mendez is that he often leaves his chin exposed.  In this fight Mendez will probably look to stick and move while he relies on his reflexes.  Meanwhile Redkach will try to slow him down and make this a phone booth fight where he can land his power punches.  Mendez will have the upper hand early in this fight but eventually Redkach will touch his body up enough to slow him down.  It will be a close fight by Redkach will come away with the majority decision win, probably helped by a knockdown.
