UniMas Quick Pick

Ramos landing a heavy right hand
Casey Ramos vs. Miguel Beltran: Tonight on UniMas two fighters will be looking to turn their luck around.  In the main event of that UniMas card Casey Ramos (23-1, 6 KO) will take on Miguel Beltran (31-5, 21 KO) and both are coming off a loss.  They are scheduled to go 10 rounds from the lightweight division and both need a win.  Ramos' loss was the first of his career and came at the hands of prospect Andy Vences.  Meanwhile, Beltran has five career losses but the most recent was the worst, a unanimous decision loss to a 12-12-5 fighter.  Ramos is an orthodox fighter with almost no power to speak of.  He works behind a busy jab that is solid but not spectacular and he will often follow it with a nice right hand.  The light hitting Ramos also throws a lot of left hooks and while they do land clean and score points, they don't do much damage.  He can also sneak in overhand rights that he will counter with effectively.  In his last eight fights Beltran has gone 4-4 with all four wins coming by the way of knockout but he also suffered one knockout loss in those fights.  Beltran is also an orthodox fighter and he will have a big power advantage against Ramos even though he is far from a knockout artist.  Beltran has a nice jab that he follows with a big right hand.  That right hand can do damage but it often comes in very wide so opponents can often slip it.  The left hook of Beltran is also a nice weapon, especially on the inside.  The problem for Beltran is that he isn't always a busy puncher which can hurt him in close fights that go the distance.  Both of these fighters are fresh off a loss and although this will be a very close fight it will be Ramos who turns things around on his way to a split decision win.
