Showtime Extreme Quick Pick

Serrano landing a stiff jab on Yazmin Rivas
Amanda Serrano vs. Dahiana Santana: Saturday will be a very busy day for boxing with fight cards on Showtime and Showtime Extreme along with a Top Rank pay-per-view card.  On Showtime Extreme is where fans can watch to see if history is made though as Amanda Serrano (31-1-1, 23 KO) looks to become Puerto Rico's first five division world champion.  She is currently tied with Miguel Cotto as the only two Puerto Rican fighters to be four division world champions.  Serrano will be challenged by Dahiana Santana (35-8, 14 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds for a vacant WBO bantamweight title.  Serrano has become one of the faces of women's boxing which is getting a much stronger push than usual in 2017.  The reason for her popularity is because of he aggressive style and power.  Serrano works out of the southpaw stance behind a nice, stiff jab.  She uses that jab to measure the distance for a strong right hook but her best punch is her left hand.  She really puts in good work with the left and does a nice job of mixing it upstairs and downstairs.  Her aggressive style does see her square up too much at times but she has a strong chin and has never been dropped as a professional.  Santana is an orthodox fighter which means head clashes could come into play during this fight.  Santana likes to leave her lead hand low and she likes to stick and move.  However, at times she will really sit down on her right hand and try to catch opponents coming in recklessly so Serrano will need to stay disciplined.  Her left hook usually comes in wide and she doesn't have much power so don't look for her to stand and trade with Serrano.  The constant movement of Santana could frustrate Serrano early on but eventually the Puerto Rican will start to break Santana down and really take control.  Santana is a tough fighter and in eight career losses was only knocked out once which came way back in 2005.  So while Serrano won't get the knockout she usually craves she will get the wide unanimous decision win.
