PBC on FS1 Quick Picks

Breazeale looks to rebound after losing to Joshua
Dominic Breazeale vs. Izuagbe Ugonoh: After the PBC on Fox card in prime time, which will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Gerald Washington, there will be bonus action on Fox Sports 1.  That card will feature another heavyweight fight, this one between Dominic Breazeale (17-1, 15 KO) and Izuage Ugonoh (17-0, 14 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds and while Ugonoh will be looking to hold on to his perfect record, Breazeale will be looking to rebound from a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.  Breazeale came to boxing late, and it shows.  He looks awkward in the ring and to make matters worse, he doesn't usually enter the ring in top shape.  Breazeale likes to work behind a decent jab out of the orthodox stance and he will follow that with his best punch, the right hand.  Along with the right hand he also has a solid left hook and he can catch opponents by surprise with his uppercuts.  However, his chin has been an issue and in his last two fights he has been dropped three times.  While U.S. fans have seen plenty of Breazeale in recent years they have probably never seen his opponent, Ugonoh, fight.  That is because he hails from Poland and all of his career fights have either happened in Poland or New Zealand.  His impressive record was built against no name fighters so this should be a good test for him and surely he hopes to make it a memorable U.S. debut.  Ugonoh is also an orthodox fighter and he has shown good power thus far in his career.  Ugonoh has a sharp jab and that jab could be a big difference in this fight, especially since Ugonoh has a 3-inch reach advantage over Breazeale.  Along with that sharp jab Ugonoh also has a good left hook and an excellent straight right hand and he has the hand speed advantage in this fight.  The Polish fighter also looks much more comfortable in the ring than Breazeale does.  Ugonoh wins most of his fights with an early knockout but Breazeale, even with his flaws, will be one of the better opponents Ugonoh has faced.  However, because of his faster hands, sharper punches, and the fact that he actually moves like a boxer Ugonoh will win this fight with a fourth round stoppage.

Plant looks to remain undefeated
Caleb Plant vs. Thomas Awimbono: The other fight that will air on Fox Sports 1 will be contested in the super middleweight division.  That fight will pit the undefeated Caleb Plant (14-0, 10 KO) up against Thomas Awimbono (25-6-1, 21 KO) and it is scheduled to go 10 rounds.  This fight should be all Plant.  Awimbono hails from Ghana and like many other Ghanaian fighters he showed tremendous power in his home country but isn't very skilled and hasn't done well once he came to the United States.  Awimbono has fought two legitimate opponents in Martin Murray and Thomas Oosthuizen but he lost both of those fights.  A close look reveals just how bad Awimbono's resume is.  In his 32 career fights 17 of his opponents had losing records, three were making their pro debut, and 14 entered the fight win zero wins to their name.  To make matters worse, at one point Awimbono fought eight fights in a row against fighters with a combined zero wins and 27 losses.  Plant hasn't fought any notable opponents either, and certainly no one as good as Murray but at least he has been in the ring with live dogs.  Plant is an orthodox fighter with a nice jab and sharp right hand.  Also, while he doesn't have the greatest looking left hook it certainly lands with a thud and the 24-year-old has a nice idea of what he wants to do in the ring.  As for Awimbono, there is absolutely no tape of him online and that is never a good sign.  He is an orthodox fighter with good power, but that power has only been seen against bad opposition and his two most recent fights, both in the U.S., have resulted in back-to-back losses.  Also, Awimbono will be at a size disadvantage and is 12 years older than Plant.  Really the only thing Awimbono has going for him is the fact that he has never been knocked out and while Plant won't be the first to do it, he will win the fight with by unanimous decision.
