Showtime Extreme Quick Picks

Amanda Serrano vs. Yazmin Rivas: It isn't often that female boxers find themselves in a televised bout.  Because of that Big Time Boxing has never covered a women's boxing match.  That changes now though because this Saturday on Showtime Extreme Amanda Serrano (30-1-1, 23 KO) will face off against Yazmin Rivas (35-9-1, 10 KO).  Serrano has been one of the more buzzed about female fights of the past year, and that is mainly due to her power punching.  Most of Serrano's fights end early and she is currently riding a five fight knockout streak, three of which came in the very first round.  Her fight with Rivas though is scheduled to go 10 rounds, and distance Rivas has gone numerous times.  Serrano is a southpaw with excellent pop on her punches.  Her stiff jab acts as a measuring stick for a strong right hook and mean left hand and she does a tremendous job of mixing up her attack from the head to the body.  Defensively Serrano will sometimes square up too much to her opponent but she has never been down as a professional and with her style of fighting her offense is her defense.  As for Rivas, she is an orthodox fighter and she doesn't have nearly the same type of power that Serrano does.  Rivas likes to work behind her jab and on the inside he shows a good overhand right.  Rivas also carries with her a skilled left hook and can go to the body nicely when needed.  The big advantage Rivas will have against Serrano is experience.  Despite being only a year older than Serrano, Rivas has been fighting as a professional for eight years longer and that experience could help her in what should be a tough fight.  While experience is always good to have so is power and Serrano has plenty of that.  While Rivas moves well in the ring she often sits in the pocket for long stretches and that is where Serrano will really take control.  This should be a good fight but eventually Serrano's power will be too much for Rivas and Serrano will score the seventh round stoppage win.

Ievgen Khytrov vs. Immanuwel Aleem: Also on Saturday's Showtime Extreme card will be a bout between the heavy hitting Ievgen Khytrov (14-0, 12 KO) and Immanuwel Aleem (16-0-1, 9 KO).  That bout is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the middleweight division but when Khytrov is in the ring things usually end well before the final bell.  Khytrov is an orthodox fighter with a very strong left hook and a brutal right hand.  Khytrov also does a nice job of sticking his jab to his opponents belly and his head movement on defense keeps him from eating too much return leather.  Aleem is also an orthodox fighter and despite being two inches shorter than Khytrov, Aleem actually carries  huge six inch reach advantage into the ring.  Aleem has quick hands and a snappy jab and he likes to move in and out quickly.  His left hook is a nice weapon and he loves jabbing to the body but he lacks the power that Khytrov has.  Aleem's best chance to win this fight is to use his speed and reach advantage to keep Khytrov at the end of his jab while constantly sticking and moving.  However, Khytrov is a serious puncher and he will break Aleem down on his way to a ninth round stoppage.
