beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Paez Jr. is fresh off a loss to Antonio Margarito
Jorge Paez Jr. vs. Johnny Navarrete: Between Friday and Saturday this week will be filled with nothing but Spanish language boxing cards.  Saturday's card will air on beIN Sports Espanol and the main event will be a bout between Jorge Paez Jr. (39-8-2, 23 KO) and Johnny Navarrete (32-8-1, 15 KO).  That bout is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior middleweight division and with both men having so many career losses neither can really afford another one.  Paez is an orthodox fighter who will be at a height and reach disadvantage against the longer Naverrete.  One reason Paez has piled up the losses is because he often fights with both hands low and leaves himself wide open upstairs.  He is also one of those fighters who seems to put on the earmuffs and wait for his opponent to finish punching before he mounts his own attack.  Paez does have a solid jab and a nice straight right hand that is probably his best punch.  Another punch Paez will use is a left hook but it often comes in wide when he does decided to let it go.  While Paez is fresh off a loss to Antonio Margarito and is 1-3 in his last four fights Navarrete has gone 3-1 in his last four and has won three in a row.  Navarrete is also an orthodox fighter who moves better than Paez does but doesn't punch as well.  Typically Navarrete likes to throw one-two combinations but he isn't a busy puncher which could hurt him against Paez.  His best punch is his straight right hand but on the inside he will also land quality uppercuts.  Look for Navarrete to try and stick and move from the outside in this fight because he has the height and reach advantage but isn't as big of a puncher as Paez.  Paez will need to be very aggressive and keep Navarrete in the pocket.  This won't be a pretty fight but Paez's power and punch output will help him secure the split decision win.

Ortega will look to remain unbeaten
Eduardo Ramirez vs. Edivaldo Ortega: The co-feature for Saturday's beIN Sports Espanol card will feature two young Mexican fighters going head-to-head.  Those fighters are Eduardo Ramirez (18-1-2, 7 KO) and Edivaldo Ortega (24-0-1, 11 KO) and they are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior featherweight division.  Ramirez works out of the southpaw stance and he likes to paw with his jab without ever really throwing it authoritatively.  He does put a lot behind his uppercut though and will throw that punch with his lead hand.  Ramirez also has a winging left hand but he isn't an accurate puncher and he lacks any serious power.  Ortega is also a southpaw and he actually looks to score with his jab.  Along with that jab Ortega also has a short right hook and a decent left hand when he can let it loose on the inside.  Neither Ramirez or Ortega is considered elite and neither would have a chance, at least on paper, to upset the king of their division, Guillermo Rigondeaux.  However, that doesn't mean they aren't capable of giving fans a good show and this could be a bout that swings in momentum throughout.  However, Ortega has more experience and he has never lost as a pro, something that won't change come Saturday night.  He won't dominate but Ortega will get the unanimous decision victory.
