PBC on Bounce TV Quick Picks

Ishe Smith vs. Frank Galarza: Las Vegas may have missed out on the big pay-per-view fight headlined by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez but they did score the appetizer.  That appetizer will come in the form of a PBC on Bounce TV card on Friday where Ishe Smith (28-8, 12 KO) will take on Frank Galarza (17-1-2, 11 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior middleweight division and both fighters are in need of a win after some recent struggles.  Smith has gone 3-3 in his last six fights but the three wins came against sub par opponents while the three losses came against Carlos Molina, Erislandy Lara, and Vanes Martirosyan.  As for Galarza he was undefeated until meeting Jarrett Hurd in late 2015, a fight that resulted in his first career loss.  Smith, the first Las Vegas native to win a world title, fights out of the orthodox stance and has fought professionally since 2000.  The veteran fighter has never been one of the more talented fighters in the sport and has had to work hard throughout his career to remain relevant.  Smith fights behind a nice jab and also has a good straight right hand but he lacks any serious power.  Along with the big right hand Smith also throws a left hook that is short and sweet at times but not often enough to make it a truly dangerous weapon.  Defensively Smith isn't that hard to hit, mainly because his footwork has never been that great.  While Galarza is no spring chicken either at 31 years old he has only been fighting professionally since 2010 so Smith has a full 10 years of experience over him.  Galarza is also an orthodox fighter but unlike Smith who has never been knocked out, Galarza was stopped in his last fight.  Galarza is not a fighter who uses his jab as a weapon, instead he uses it as a measuring stick for his power punches.  The Brooklyn, New York native has a looping left hook that can do damage and he also has a pretty good right hand.  His advantage over Smith is in the power department but he is also vulnerable because he tends to leave both of his hands fairly low.  This should actually be a pretty close fight and either fighter could win since both have vulnerabilities, yet when it comes down to it the veteran Smith should do enough to beat Galarza by the way of majority decision.

Justin DeLoach vs. Domonique Dolton: Friday's co-feature will be a good opportunity for two young fighters to gain some attention.  Both Justin DeLoach (15-1, 8 KO) and Domonique Dolton (17-0-1, 9 KO) have stumbled in their young careers, although DeLoach's stumble was much worse, coming in the form of a stoppage loss to a sub par fighter.  The two young fighters are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior middleweight division where both fighters will look to make a name for themselves.  DeLoach is a tall junior middleweight who works out of the orthodox stance.  At times he moves well in the ring but at other times he just seems to get on his bike rather than engage his opponent.  DeLoach does most of his best work with his right hand and he will throw both an overhand and straight right.  His left hook is short but he often slaps with that punch and his jab is solid when he commits to it.  DeLoach will have a 3-inch height and reach advantage in this fight which could play a role in the outcome.  Dolton, like DeLoach, is an orthodox fighter and their power is about the same.  The jab of Dolton is decent but he does much better work with short left hooks and right hands.  What this fight will probably come down to is movement.  DeLoach really likes to give his legs a workout during fights and if he gets on his bike in this fight Dolton probably won't be able to do much damage.  However, DeLoach needs to remember to stay busy because if Dolton gets in the pocket he will unload with power punches.  This fight will be a frustrating one for Dolton who will follow DeLoach around the ring without much success as he watches DeLoach stick and move his way to a unanimous decision victory.
