beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Donnie Nietes vs. Edgar Sosa: The last time U.S. fans saw Edgar Sosa (52-9, 30 KO) in the ring he was being obliterated by Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez.  On Saturday Sosa will take on Donnie Nietes (38-1-4, 22 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 12 rounds in the flyweight division on beIN Sports Espanol.  While Nietes has a few draws on his record he hasn't actually lost a fight since 2004.  Nietes is an orthodox fighter who is tough to beat.  His jab isn't great but he uses it as a measuring stick and likes to stick it in the face of opponents.  With that jab Nietes has a strong right hand that can look awkward at times and the same can be said for his left hook.  Sosa is also an orthodox fighter who at 37 years old has been fighting professionally since 2000.  Sosa has a good left hook along with a strong right hand but he will sometimes stay in the pocket too long on offense and when he is done his own attack he will find himself out of position which leaves him open to be countered.  Sosa doesn't move very well in the ring which is one reason he has been knocked out three times in his nine losses.  Nietes isn't know for his slick movement either so there is a good chance this fight will take place in a phone booth with both fighters looking to damage the other at close range.  When it comes to current for Nietes is definitely in the better position.  In his last 10 fights he has gone 9-0-1 with six knockouts, meanwhile in Sosa's last five fights he has gone 3-2 with one knockout but he also suffered a knockout loss himself.  This fight should be more of a brawl than a skilled chess match and that will benefit the younger Nietes who will land the harder punches on his way to a 10th round stoppage.

Mark Magsayo vs. Ramiro Robles: In the co-feature of Saturday's beIN Sports Espanol card will be 21-year-old prospect Mark Magsayo (14-0, 11 KO).  Magsayo will take on Ramiro Robles (13-5-1, 8 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 12 rounds in the featherweight division, one of the most talent rich divisions in boxing.  Magsayo is a young orthodox boxer with good pop on his punches, especially for such a small fighter.  His jab is a good weapon and going forward that is a punch he needs to use more often.  For now he relies on a big left hook and a heavy right hand to win him fights and so far so good because he has never lost as a professional.  For Robles this will be another fight against a good looking, undefeated prospect.  In recent years he has fought both Joseph Diaz and Diego De La Hoya and in his last five fights he has gone 1-4.  Robles fights out of the southpaw stance and from him you will see a lot of one-two combinations.  While those combinations are fairly accurate they are also slow because top end hand speed is not something Robles possesses.  This fight is all about Magsayo.  He is the prospect with the perfect record and Robles was simply brought in as an opponent like he was against Diaz and De La Hoya.  Like those fights this one will go as expected as Magsayo cruises to a wide unanimous decision victory.
