Marriaga is 3-0 since losing to Walters |
Miguel Marriaga vs. Guy Robb:
This Saturday UniMas will air a fight card headlined by a bout between two fighters with just two career losses between them. Those fighters are Miguel Marriaga (23-1, 19 KO) and Guy Robb (18-1, 8 KO). The two pugilists are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the featherweight division. Marriaga, who hails from Colombia, fights out of the orthodox stance and has shown good power throughout his career. Offensively Marriaga does a lot well, including landing a stiff jab. With that jab Marriaga also has a very good left hook, especially to the body, and his overhand right is also dangerous. However, that right hand tends to be wild so it doesn't land as often as it could. When he gets in close Marriaga does a nice job of landing uppercuts but he will also eat plenty of return fire because he isn't great defensively. Robb is also an orthodox fighter but he lacks the power that Marriaga has. Robb has also fought weaker opposition than Marriaga and that is saying a lot because Marriaga really only has one notable fight on his resume and that was a loss to Nicholas Walters. Robb has a nice jab he fights behind but he too has a wild overhand right. When he tries to land that punch upstairs he really loads up and isn't very accurate, although to the body that right hand will land more consistently. This fight could go either way because neither man has really been tested yet. However, in professional boxing power punches count for something and Marriaga has the heavier hands and they will help him win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.

Felix has impressed but hasn't yet stepped up |
Jose Felix vs. Robert Frankel:
The co-feature for Saturday's UniMas card may feature the best fighter on the entire card, Jose Felix (33-1-1, 25 KO). Felix will take on Robert Frankel (34-16-1, 7 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds from the lightweight division. Felix, who suffered the first loss of his career in 2014, has gone 6-0 since with three wins coming by the way of knockout. However, he hasn't fought a very high level of opposition with his best opponent probably being Yakubu Amidu. As for Frankel he actually has the bigger names on his resume and he has been in the ring with the likes of John Molina Jr., among others. Frankel is being brought in as the opponent in this fight though with Felix's promoters hoping he can make their fighter look good. Felix is an orthodox fighter with good power and a very awkward, wild style at times. He flashes a quick jab and also has a very strong left hook, although that punch does get too wide at times. Felix also has a nice right hand but it is the left hook that does the most damage. Frankel is also an orthodox fighter but he has little to no power. Also, his chin isn't great which isn't good considering Felix has plenty of pop on his punches. One thing Frankel likes to do is put his punches together. He has a pretty nice jab and will often bring a barrage of left hooks and straight right hands behind it. Frankel usually likes to stay in front of his opponents though and he isn't great defensively so this fight could end up looking like target practice for Felix. It should come as no surprise that Felix will win this fight, the only question is when and how and he will answer those questions in the form of a fourth round knockout.
