PBC on FS1 Quick Pick

Caleb Plant vs. Juan De Angel: For regular readers of Big Time Boxing you know that this blog covers, and makes picks for, all 10, and 12-round fights scheduled to air on U.S. television.  On Tuesday the PBC will air a card on Fox Sports 1 and the main event of that card, the only fight on the card being covered by Big Time Boxing, will be the 1,000th fight covered by the blog.  That main event will be a contest between Caleb Plant (13-0, 10 KO) and Juan De Angel (18-4-1, 17 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the super middleweight division where the young, 24-year-old Plant is looking to make a name for himself.  While neither fighter has faced any elite level talent De Angel has faced some seriously bad opponents.  In his 23 career fights he has faced seven opponents who entered the fight without a win, three who only had one win, and six who were making their pro debut.  That means 16 of De Angel's opponents combined to win a total of three wins.  Certainly Plant and his perfect record represent a step up from many of De Angel's opponents.  Plant is a young orthodox prospect who has shown a nice left hook and right hand.  Both punches are short and he likes to bang his right hand to the body of his opponents.  Along with those power punches Plant also has a nice jab and moves pretty well inside the squared circle.  Plant doe have some room for improvement though.  He tends to keep both hands very low and late in fights when he's tired he sometimes loads up on his power punches and telegraphs them.  De Angel is from Colombia and like many other Colombian fighters he has very good power but he skills aren't the sharpest.  While De Angel does have good power his knockouts have come against bad competition and his chin is very questionable, considering he has been knocked out twice in his four career losses.  De Angel is also an orthodox fighter and while he uses a jab it is more of a throw away punch or measuring stick than a weapon.  What De Angel does do is throw a big overhand right that can do damage when it lands, although it is wild.  The Colombian fighter also has left hook he will use but his overhand right is the punch to watch out for, especially for a fighter like Plant who does keep his hands low.  While De Angel does have a puncher's chance it is clear that his power isn't as top end as his record would indicate.  Plant has some pop himself and he is the better boxer of the two so Plant will get out to an early lead on the cards and later in the fight he will stop De Angel in the fifth round.
