PBC on ESPN

David Benavidez vs. Denis Douglin: ESPN stopped airing their long running and beloved Friday Night Fights in order to air PBC cards.  With Friday Night Fights fans could tune in to weekly boxing cards interrupted by a short hiatus in the slower months.  Now fans have to settle for what amounts to maybe one or two cards a month, many of which would be perfectly suited for the old Friday Night Fights format.  Once again that is the case this Friday when the undefeated and untested prospect, David Benavidez (15-0, 14 KO) takes on Denis Douglin (20-4, 13 KO).  Their fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the super middleweight division.  Benavidez has never faced anyone worth noting but in his 15 career fights he has won nine of them with a first round knockout.  As for Douglin, he has faced the higher level of opposition but hasn't always fared so well.  In his career he has faced the likes of George Groves and Jermell Charlo but lost to both.  At only 19-years-old Benavidez could have a bright future ahead of him.  He fights out of the orthodox stance where he has shown a nice jab and stiff straight right hand.  He also likes to come underneath with that right hand and is accurate with his uppercuts.  Benavidez also has a left hook that can do some damage but his right hand is his most dangerous weapon.  Head clashes could play a role in this fight because Douglin works out of the southpaw stance.  He flashes a quick jab that he will follow with a nice straight left hand.  The problem for Douglin has always been his defense.  He doesn't move all that well and will eat clean punches upstairs.  Because of that he has been stopped three times in his four career losses.  Douglin certainly has the edge when it comes to experience but Benavidez is a serious puncher and he will win this fight with a sixth round stoppage.

Alejandro Luna vs. Stephen Ormond: The co-feature for Friday's PBC card will feature another young prospect in Alejandro Luna (20-0, 15 KO).  Luna will take on Irish veteran Stephen Ormond (21-2, 11 KO) who has two career losses but one came when he was disqualified against Terry Flanagan for repeated use of his head.  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the lightweight division.  Luna is an orthodox fighter with a very aggressive style.  He has fast hands and he likes to showcase that hand speed from the inside where he loves to unload power punches.  Not only does Luna carry a dangerous right hand but he throws a vicious left hook to the body and when he gets his opponent hurt he is like a shark with blood in the water.  Ormond is also an orthodox fighter but he lacks the power that Luna has.  Also, despite being 33-years-old Ormond has only fought one notable opponent, Flanagan and he lost his cool in that fight on his way to a disqualification.  Ormond likes to fight on the inside but he doesn't us his jab to get there.  Instead he plows ahead and likes to stick his head on his opponents chest and then work the body.  Ormond does bang to the body well but he doesn't have top end power to do any serious damage.  This fight should take place from the pocket and provide fans with plenty of action while it lasts.  Ormond has never been knocked out and he will fight tough but eventually Luna will start to do some serious damage and he will stop Ormond in the final round of this 10-round fight.
