Estrella TV Quick Picks

Franco will be a big step up for Morales
Carlos Morales vs. Luis Franco: On Friday night Estrella TV will air a card headlined by a fight between a young fighter and a veteran who could be his toughest test.  That young fighter is Carlos Morales (13-1-3, 6 KO) and he will take on Luis Franco (14-1-1, 9 KO) in a 10-round bout from the junior lightweight division.  Morales actually started his career 0-1-3 and has won 13 fights in a row since that last loss.  However, all of his fights have come against weak competition.  While Franco hasn't faced any elite fighters either he has been in the ring with solid opponents like Eric Hunter and Javier Fortuna who he fought to a draw in 2013.  Morales is an orthodox fighter who works behind a nice jab.  With that jab Morales has also shown a strong straight right hand and a solid left hook.  However, there is no telling how good, or bad, he actually is because he has never faced any notable opponents.  While Franco is far from elite he should be the best opponent Morales has faced.  Franco is also an orthodox fighter and between the two he will be the bigger puncher.  Like his opponent Franco also has a nice jab and straight right hand and he seems to be the crisper puncher.  This fight should be a very close one and probably won't be the most action packed.  Both fighters like to control things with there jab so whoever can do that first could win.  Franco is the more experienced fighter though and he also throws the more accurate punches and he will win this fight with a split decision.

Gonzalez will look to remain perfect
Joet Gonzalez vs. Sergio Lopez: The opening fight on Friday's Estrella TV card will also have a young prospect in action in the 22-year-old Joet Gonzalez (13-0, 6 KO).  Gonzalez will be taking on Sergio Lopez (20-10-1, 13 KO) in a 10 round fight from the featherweight division.  This will be Gonzalez's first time being scheduled to go 10 rounds and he has only ever gone eight rounds twice.  Gonzalez is an orthodox fighter with quick hands.  He likes to show off that quickness with a nice jab that he will follow with a very fast, although not always accurate, straight right hand.  While he doesn't u use it too much Gonzalez also has a good left hook that can sneak up on opponents.  Lopez is also an orthodox fighter but his skills aren't as sharp as Gonzalez's as evident by him being knocked out seven times in 10 career losses.  On the outside Lopez doesn't put in much work and often squares up to his opponent.  On the inside he likes to wing left hooks and right hands but neither finds its home very often.  While Gonzalez may lack the power to stop Lopez he does have the skills to handle him and he will do so on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
