HBO Latino Quick Picks

Orozco looks to remain perfect
Antonio Orozco vs. Abner Lopez: This Saturday on HBO Latino the undefeated Antonio Orozco (24-0, 16 KO) will take on Abner Lopez (23-5, 19 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division and if Orozco wants to keep his perfect record intact he will have to defeat the taller, longer Lopez.  Orozco is an orthodox fighter with a decent jab and straight right hand.  From the outside Orozco isn't all that impressive but he picks things up on the inside.  Orozco has a strong left hook and he is more than willing to bang to the body on the inside.  Lopez is also an orthodox fighter and he will have a serious height and reach advantage over Orozco.  While Lopez does have a pretty good jab and straight left hand he doesn't have very fast hands so when he throws his punches he tends to eat some in return.  Unlike his opponent Lopez likes to fight from the outside so whoever can control the distance in this fight should come away the winner.  It may be difficult for Orozco to get inside on Lopez but once he does he will find success and get the unanimous decision win.

Diaz looks to continue his rise
Joseph Diaz vs. Victor Proa: A fighter's record tells a story about his career but that story told by their record isn't always true.  In the case of Joseph Diaz (20-0, 11 KO) his record tells the truth.  He is a talented boxer with a bit of pop and he has faced quality opposition.  His opponent on HBO Latino will be Victor Proa (28-1-2, 21 KO) and while his record looks good a closer look reveals that he has never faced any notable competition.  Saturday's fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the featherweight division and this will be both fighters second fight of 2016.  However, before his fight earlier this year Proa hadn't fought since 2010 and before that hadn't fought since 2008.  The bottom line is that Proa is being used to make Diaz look good, and looking good is something Diaz is used to.  The young Diaz fights out of the southpaw stance and he works behind a skilled jab and stiff straight left hand.  As for power punches Diaz carries a nice right hook which he likes to bang to the body and he will occasionally throw an overhand left that can do damage.  Diaz is also strong defensively and rarely finds himself out of position.  As for Proa, he is an orthodox fighter with a quality jab.  Along with that jab Proa also has a decent left hook but if he were a real danger to Diaz he wouldn't be in this fight.  Diaz looks like a future star and he will easily win this fight with a wide unanimous decision.
