beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Luis Nery vs. David Sanchez: Along with the notable fights on Showtime this weekend there will also be a card on beIN Sports Espanol on Saturday night.  The main event of that card features the undefeated Luis Nery (19-0, 13 KO) taking on David Sanchez (29-3-2, 22 KO).  They are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior bantamweight division with Nery looking to remain perfect.  Nery is a southpaw with good pop on his punches.  While Nery has a solid jab and straight left hand he is actually at his best when he is throwing body punches.  Nery has shown a good left hook, especially downstairs, and he puts in even better work with his right hand.  Don't expect to see much sticking and moving though since he prefers to stay in the pocket and bang it out.  Sanchez is an orthodox fighter who put together an 18-fight win streak before a recent loss.  However, Sanchez rebounded from that loss by winning his last fight.  Sanchez's jab is decent and he carries a pretty stiff straight right hand.  The most dangerous weapon Sanchez has is probably hist left hook which he always seems to throw with bad intentions.  This fight should be a classic Mexican brawl since both fighters like to stand in the pocket and trade leather.  Also, they are both excellent body punchers.  This is a fairly even fight on paper but Nery has slightly more power and that will be the difference as he wins this fight with a majority decision.

Jorge Paez Jr, vs. Johnny Navarrete: The co-feature for Saturday's beIN Espanol card will pit two 28-year-old fighters, both with eight career losses against each other.  Those fighters are Jorge Paez Jr. (39-8-2, 23 KO) and Johnny Navarrete (31-8-1, 15 KO) and they are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the welterweight division.  Although young Paez has already been thrown in tough and has already had a high number of fights.  In his last fight he lost a unanimous decision to Antonio Margarito in Margarito's return to the ring.  Paez is an orthodox fighter who likes to fight from the pocket.  He likes to use his jab as a range finder for his overhand right Paez will also throw a left hook that can do damage but his problems have always come on the defensive side of things.  On defense Paez doesn't move that well and because he tends to keep his hands low he typically eats a lot of punches upstairs.  When it comes down to their resumes Paez's is much better.  Navarrete hasn't faced the same level of competition yet he still has eight career losses.  Navarrete is also an orthodox fighter but he carries less power on his punches than Paez does.  While Navarrete has long arms that could allow him to have a nice jab he doesn't.  Instead Navarrete has a lazy jab that he sticks out and lets hang down which means he should be open for counter rights from Paez all night.  Navarrete does have a decent left hook but he isn't the busiest puncher and like Paez he doesn't move that well in the ring.  This fight won't be the prettiest one but Paez will get the win when he stops Navarrete in the seventh round.
