Weekend Wrap-Up

  • Last week didn't provide much action for fans and the fights that did take place weren't exactly thrilling.  The first action of the week was on Showtime when they rolled out another episode of ShoBox: The New Generation.  The main event of that card matched two undefeated cruiserweights against each other in Andrew Tabiti and Keith Tapia.  The fight was close to start but over time Tabiti took control and was sharper late.  When the scores were announced Tabiti was awarded the unanimous decision victory.  The co-feature pitted Michael Hunter against the awkward Isiah Thomas.  While Hunter was the more aggressive fighter his punches were not very accurate, mainly due to the awkwardness of Thomas.  In fact, Thomas spent more time laying on the ropes then he did actually throwing punches and when the fight mercifully ended it was Hunter who came away the winner by the way of unanimous decision.  The most excited fight was the bout that kicked the card off.  That fight was between Ronald Gavril and Juan Camilo Novoa.  The fight was never in question as Gavril got off to a hot start and never slowed down before stopping Novoa in the fourth round.

  • The rest of the action last week took place on BET.  The main event of that card, which was put on by Roc Nation Sports, featured Dusty Hernandez-Harrison taking on Mike Dallas Jr.  The fight was a close one but many felt that Dallas outworked the young Hernandez-Harrison.  Apparently the judges had a more difficult time choosing a winner because the fight ended in a split draw.
