PBC on Spike Quick Picks

Andre Dirrell vs. Blake Caparello: On Friday night the PBC returns to Spike with a card featured both of the fighting Dirrell brothers.  Headlining the night's action will be the older Dirrell brother, Andre Dirrell (24-2, 16 KO).  He will be taking on Australia's Blake Caparello (22-1-1, 6 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the super middleweight division, a division that Dirrell is very familiar with and Caparello is still getting accustomed to.  Dirrell's only career losses have come to top fighters in Carl Froch and James DeGale.  The fight with DeGale was a close one and Dirrell hopes that if he strings a few more wins together he can get a rematch.  Meanwhile, Caparello's lone loss came as a light heavyweight against the dominant Sergey Kovalev who knocked him out in the second round.  While both fighters need a win Caparello isn't really in the title mix so a loss for him wouldn't be as big of a setback as it would for Dirrell.  Dirrell is a southpaw who can also switch to the conventional stance when need be and he is often successful doing so.  The older Dirrell brother fights behind a stiff jab and he also has a good right hook, especially when he is banging it to the body of opponents.  With those weapons Dirrell also has a very stiff straight left hand and he will also throw a crooked left hand that is powerful as well.  While Dirrell is more of a boxer-puncher, Caparello is a straight boxer who carries very little power on his punches.  Caparello is also a southpaw and he loves to work behind quick jabs and stiff straight left hands.  The right hook of Caparello doesn't have much on it and when he wins fights it is because he is the superior boxer.  Caparello isn't a terrible fighter, he has some nice wins and against Dirrell he will be the naturally bigger man.  However, outside of his fight against Kovalev he hasn't face any other elite opponents while Dirrell has been in with top flight talent on numerous occasions.  This fight may be close for the first few rounds but once Dirrell gets going Caparello won't be able to put up much resistance.  Because of that Dirrell will win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.

Anthony Dirrell vs. Caleb Truax: The younger of the Dirrell brothers will be fighting in the co-feature of Friday's PBC on Spike card.  Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KO) is the heavier handed Dirrell brother and he will take that power int he ring against Caleb Traux (26-2-2, 16 KO).  Their fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the super middleweight division and both fighters are still on the rebound after recent losses.  For Dirrell that loss came against Badou Jack in a very close fight and for Truax his loss came against Daniel Jacobs, who stopped him in the final round.  Dirrell is an orthodox fighter with good power although he isn't as sharp of a boxer as his brother is. The younger Dirrell has a pretty good jab along with a heavy right hand.  The right hand, and the jab to the body are probably his best used weapons although he also has a nice left hook.  Truax is also an orthodox fighter but he doesn't have the power that Dirrell does.  While Truax doesn't have the best jab it is a punch he uses a lot and sometimes that will be the only punch he uses for an entire round.  Truax will occasionally throw a straight right hand but it isn't a very good punch.  One of the problems for Truax during his career is that he isn't a very busy puncher so if his opponents consistently gets off first he can find himself down on the cards quickly.  Like the main event this should be a pretty good fight early but in the middle rounds Truax will really start to taste Dirrell's power.  Late in the fight will be all Dirrell and he will score the eighth round stoppage.
