Estrella TV Quick Picks

Antonio Orozco vs. Miguel Acosta: The main event of Friday's Estrella TV card is headlined by two fighters in different places.  Antonio Orozco (23-0, 15 KO) is looking for his first title shot while his opponent Miguel Acosta (29-8-2, 23 KO) is looking to get another shot at the title after failing to capture it in a fight with Brandon Rios and Richar Abril in 2011.  On Friday the two prizefighters are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the welterweight division.  Orozco is an orthodox fighter who earlier in his career showed plus power but as his level of competition stepped up his knockouts dried up.  While he has a pretty good jab and straight right hand he does his best work in close.  On the inside Orozco lands left hooks and has a nice crooked right hand that can both do damage.  Also, Orozco likes to press the action which makes him fun to watch.  While Orozco will be brining a perfect record into the ring Acosta will be bringing one that has fallen apart recently.  In his last six fights Acosta has gone 1-5 and was knocked out once.  However, in those six fights Acosta faced better opponents than Orozco has ever been in the ring with so he does have the experience advantage,  Acosta has also been very inactive in recent years, only fighting once in 2012 and 2013 and not fighting at all in 2014.  Acosta is an orthodox fighter with good power though he may be able to test the chin of Orozco.  Acosta is an athletic fighter with a pretty good jab and straight right hand but he doesn't always bring his hands back up to protect himself as he is throwing punches.  His best punch is his big left hook and he should act as a good measuring stick for his much younger opponent.  Acosta has lost four fights in a row and Orozco has won his last four by the way of unanimous decision and on Friday both of those numbers will go to five as Orozco will win this fight via unanimous decision.

Andrew Cancio vs. Hugo Cazares: The co-feature for Friday's ShoBox: The New Generation card also features two fighters with a large age gap between them.  27-year-old Andrew Cancio (16-3-2, 12 KO) will take on Hugo Cazares ( 40-8-2, 27 KO) who is nearly 10 years his senior.  Cazares has fought for a title in the recent past and has fought elite fighters such as Carl Frampton and Ivan Calderon.  Cancio also has some name fighters on his resume like Rocky Juarez but still hasn't reach a level where he would competing for a title.  Cancio is an orthodox fighter with a decent jab but a better straight right hand.  Along with those punches Cancio also has a solid left hook that he will bang to the body but in the process of landing punches he often eats plenty of clean leather upstairs.  Cazares is a southpaw so a clash of heads could come into play during this fight.  The jab of Cazares is decent but he does his best work with his right hand whether he throws it straight or as a crooked punch.  The problem for Cazares has always been defense and in his eight career losses three have come by the way of knockout including a brutal knockout loss to Frampton in his most recent fight.  At this point in the career of Cazares he can beat average fighters but doesn't really stand a chance against elite opponents.  While Cancio is far from elite he should be good enough to get by Cazares with a unanimous decision victory.
