Estrella TV Quick Picks

Caballero will try to remain perfect on Friday
Randy Caballero vs. Ruben Garcia: There will be two undefeated prospects headlining Friday's Estrella TV card but they will not be fighting each other.  The prospect in the main event will be Randy Caballero (22-0, 13 KO) who will look to keep his perfect record intact against Ruben Garcia (15-1-1, 6 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the top heavy junior featherweight division.  Caballero is an orthodox fighter who fights behind a nice jab that he will often stick to the body.  When he gets in close Caballero, who goes by the nickname "El Matador," loves to rip right hands and he finds success doing that from the pocket.  While Caballero also has a solid left hook, it is his right hand that does the most damage.  The one knock against Caballero comes on the defensive side of things.  Because "El Matador" likes to fight from the pocket he will eat his fair share of punches, especially upstairs and going forward he might be better served boxing a bit more.  While Caballero is only 25 years old he will actually be the older man come Friday night because Garcia is only 22 years old.  That Garcia is a 22-year-old is all that is really know about him.  He has absolutely no tape online, not even highlights and that is never a good sign.  We also now from his record that Garcia has never been knocked down and his lone career loss came at the hands of a 19-0-2 fighter, his best opponent to date.  On Friday when Garcia steps in the ring it will be against the new best fighter he has faced.  This fight will be all Caballero and he will win easily by the way of unanimous decision.

Gomez has had problems outside of the ring
Frankie Gomez vs. Silverio Ortiz: The other undefeated prospect who will be in action on Friday night will be Frankie Gomez (19-0, 13 KO).  Gomez will be taking on Silverio Ortiz (34-16, 16 KO) in a 10-round bout in the welterweight division.  After stopping Vernon Paris in mid-2014 Gomez looked like he was on the verge of becoming a legitimate contender and possibly even a star.  However, he has only fought once since then and while he remains unbeaten he has had issues outside the ring, including, but not limited to, weight issues.  Gomez is an orthodox fighter and is still only 23 years old but he needs to get fans to remember how highly he was once thought of.  Gomez goes by the nickname "Pitbull" and he has a very aggressive style.  He fights behind a high guard and he has a stiff jab that helps him set up heavy left hooks and right hands.  If Gomez can get himself right outside of the ring than he could become a star inside it, and he is still young enough to get it done.  One big advantage Ortiz will have over Gomez is experience.  Gomez's toughest opponent to date was Paris while Ortiz has taken on the likes of Marcos Maidana, Humberto Soto, and Steve Forbes.  Ortiz is coming off back-to-back losses though and he has been knocked out before.  Ortiz is also an orthodox fighter but he is much wilder than Gomez and his punches usually come in very wide.  Don't expect to see Ortiz jab much because he typically relies on his power punches and although it is wild he does carry a decent left hook.  This could be a fun fight because both guys like to trade punches and Gomez might show some ring rust after only fighting three times the last two years.  Still, Gomez will be good enough to win this fight comfortably by the way of unanimous decision.
