PBC on FS1 Quick Picks

Juan Dominguez vs. Yenifel Vicente: Tonight the PBC will come to Fox Sports 1.  The main event of that card will be an intriguing one that pits featherweight prospect Juan Dominguez (19-0, 13 KO) against Yenifel Vicente (27-3-2, 19 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds and it will be interesting to see how Dominguez holds up because he has never been passed eight rounds and Vicente represents a step up in competition for him.  Vicente was a solid prospect himself until recently and his record in his past seven fights is an unimpressive 4-3.  Dominguez who will be looking to remain undefeated is an orthodox fighter.  He has quick hands and he likes to double up his stiff jab and he does a nice job of varying his attack to the body and to the head.  While Dominguez has shown a good straight right hand his best punch is his left hook.  Vicente is also an orthodox fighter but he doesn't have the same kind of pop on his punches that Dominguez does.  Vicente also isn't as busy of a puncher as Dominguez and he likes to counter opponents on their way in.  Often times Vicente will wait behind a high guard and then unleash a counter left hook or stiff straight right hand.  That straight right hand is probably Vicente's best punch but he will also throw it wildly and when he does that it doesn't land often.  This should be an interesting scrap because Vicente has more experience but hasn't done well against the better names on his resume, and those names aren't of elite fighters.  Dominguez may have trouble with his stamina if this fight goes into the deep rounds, which it will, but he will have built up enough of a lead to win the fight via close unanimous decision.

Keith Tapia vs. Garrett Wilson: The co-feature for tonight's card will be a cruiserweight bout between undefeated prospect Keith Tapia (16-0, 11 KO) and the always tough Garrett Wilson (16-9-1, 9 KO).  The two pugilists are scheduled to go 10 rounds and both will be looking to make a statement.  For Tapia that statement will be to say that he can handle a gatekeeper like Wilson and keep stepping up.  The statement Wilson will be trying to make is that he still has enough left in the tank to give a young prospect a good test, and possibly beat him.  The two men do have a recent opponent in common in Anthony Caputo Smith with Tapia stopping him in the 1st round of their 2015 fight and Wilson knocking him out in the same year.  While Tapia, who fights out of the orthodox stance, has shown good power he has shown it against sub par competition.  While Tapia likes to work his jab it isn't a great one and he often leans forward giving up his height advantage.  However, Tapia does have a very good straight right hand and his left hook can do damage as well.  Tapia isn't the type of fighter who sticks and moves from the outside, he likes to do his work from the pocket and he does a nice job of landing uppercuts in close.  One big advantage for Tapia against Wilson will be his height.  Tapia stands at 6-feet 2-inches tall while Wilson only measure 5-feet 8-inches so the height disparity will be glaring.  It is no secret who Wilson is, a tough gatekeeper who has been kept around to test the mettle of young prospects.  Wilson is also an orthodox fighter who usually looks for one big punch instead of a sustained attack.  Not only will Wilson be much shorter than Tapia but he is also eight years older and has been through many tough fights.  While Wilson has some pop on his left hook it is the right hand that Tapia will need to watch out for.  This fight is all about how Tapia looks and against the much smaller Wilson will look good enough to get the unanimous decision win in a fight that is never really in question.
