Joseph Diaz vs. Hugo Partida: In recent fights Joseph Diaz (18-0, 10 KO) has fought solid competition but he still hasn't taken that next step up.  Well that step won't come on Friday night when the 23-year-old Diaz takes on Hugo Partida (21-6-2, 16 KO) in a 10-round fight in the featherweight division.  This fight will be more of a showcase fight for Diaz who has already gone 4-0 with one knockout in 2015.  Diaz is a southpaw who has already shown he is extremely talented.  He has shown a good jab in his young career and often follows it up nicely with his left hand.  Diaz also has a solid right hook and he has a fan-friendly style in the ring.  As for Partida he will be looking to pull off a big upset and get back on track after losing his last two fights, one by the way of knockout.  Partida fights out of the orthodox stance and his chin has let him down in the past causing him to be knocked out three times in his six losses.  Recently Partida has been used as a test for young prospects like Julian Ramirez and that is the role he finds himself in again against Diaz.  While Partida doesn't use his jab very often he does have a nice, long straight right hand that works in similar fashion.  Partida will also throw a left hook but that is a very wild punch.  This fight is really all about Diaz and how good he looks.  While the young fighter shouldn't have much difficulty with Partida he won't score the knockout and will have to settle for a very wide unanimous decision win.

Rene Alvarado vs. Andrew Cancio: Friday's co-feature will also be a 10-round featherweight fight, this one between Rene Alvarado (23-5, 16 KO) and Andrew Cancio (15-3-2, 11 KO).  While this will be Alvarado's fifth fight of 2015 having already gone 2-2 with two knockouts, Cancio hasn't fought at all this year and only fought once in 2013, and once in 2014, going 1-1.  Alvarado is an orthodox fighter who tends to get wild in the ring but is usually involved in good fights.  He has a nice straight right hand and when he throws his left hook properly it is a dangerous weapon.  Alvarado's problem is that he often throws that left hook way too wide.  Alvarado is at his best when he is coming forward behind straight punches so look for him to be aggressive against Cancio who could show some considerable ring rust.  Cancio is also an orthodox fighter and he likes to fight from the pocket and work the body.  While his left hook is a good weapon he may actually do his best work with his very short overhand right.  Despite having eight losses between them neither Alvarado or Cancio has ever been knocked out so even if they go toe-to-toe this fight should reach the final bell.  This fight may have made boxing heads more excited had Cancio been more active recently but that inactivity will hurt him against Alvarado who win get the split decision victory come Friday night.
