PBC on FS1 Quick Pick

Gerald Washington vs. Amir Mansour: This Tuesday the PBC will put on an interesting heavyweight fight on Fox Sports 1.  The fight will be between Gerald Washington (16-0, 11 KO) and Amir Mansour (22-1, 16 KO) and it is scheduled to go 10 rounds.  College football fans might remember Washington from his days as a tight end and defensive end for the USC Trojans.  Washington also spent time in the United States Navy and was on the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills practice squads in the NFL before turning to boxing.  Washington is clearly a good athlete but this will be only the second fight he has ever been in that has been scheduled to go 10 rounds and he has never gone passed 8 rounds before in his career.  On top of all that Mansour will be his toughest opponent to date, although a 5-inch height advantage for Washington could help.  Washington is a big orthodox fighter who throws a stiff jab.  Along with that jab he also flashes a strong straight right hand and unlike many of his plus-sized colleagues who came from other sports, Washington actually looks the part of a fighter.  Washington does have a solid left hook to go along with the rest of his punches but when he throws his left hand he will often drop his right and leave himself open to be countered.  Mansour is a southpaw who has pretty quick hands for a heavyweight.  Mansour likes to jab to the body and he will often bring a strong straight left hand behind it.  The best punch Mansour has in his toolbox is his right hook but he will get wild at times when throwing his crooked punches.  The two men do have a common opponent in Jason Gavern who Mansour fought in 2013 and Washington fought in 2015.  It is interesting to note that Mansour knocked Gavern out in round one while Washington had to settle for the unanimous decision win.  This is an interesting fight and one that Mansour probably wants to take to the late rounds.  Washington will have success early with his size but eventually Mansour will start to land and he will hurt Washington late which will help secure the split decision victory.

Michael Hunter vs. Jason Douglas: Another heavyweight fight will act as the co-feature for Tuesday's card.  In that fight Michael Hunter (9-0, 6 KO) will face off against Jason Douglas (11-5, 4 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds in the heavyweight division.  Hunter had a lot of success as an amateur and so far he is having equal success as a pro.  This will be his first 10-round fight and he is still on the rise so he hasn't faced any notable opponents yet, and Douglas won't be his first.  Douglas is 35 years old but has never faced a truly good opponent and he will enter this fight as the opponent there to make Hunter go a few rounds before ultimately losing, at least that is what Hunter and his team hope.  Hunter is an orthodox fighter who has actually campaigned as a heavyweight and cruiserweight.  He has a long jab and has shown the ability to turn that left over quickly to throw a nice left hook.  Hunter also throws a dangerous straight right hand but fans won't know how good he actually is until he steps in with better opposition.  Douglas is also an orthodox fighter but has has almost no power, something that doesn't help a heavyweight.  He does have a pretty quick jab but his right hand and left hook come in wide and he is only 6-4 in his last 10 fights.  At this point in Hunter's career he isn't going to be put in the ring with anyone who poses a serious threat which is why he will be in with the light hitting Douglas.  Hunter won't get the knockout win he may be looking for but he will get the unanimous decision win.
