PBC on Fox Sports 1 Quick Picks

Julian Williams vs. Luciano Cuello: Tuesday's PBC card on Fox Sports 1 will really be about one man, Julian Williams (20-0-1, 12 KO).  Williams is a talented prospect still climbing the ladder on his way to contender status.  On Tuesday Williams will take on Luciano Cuello (35-3, 17 KO) in a 10-round, junior middleweight bout.  Cuello is a veteran that has taken on some top prospects in the past.  The problem for Cuello is that he has never beaten a top prospect.  He couldn't beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, or even Willie Nelson.  Also, some of Cuello's most recent opponents have had records of 8-34, and 16-12-6.  All this means that Cuello will probably be playing the role of veteran opponent who can give Williams some new looks but isn't there to really threat the undefeated record of Williams.  Williams is an orthodox boxer who probably has a bit more power than he gets credit for.  The jab of Williams is a very good weapon and it is a stiff punch he likes to work from the outside.  Williams also likes to follow that jab with a strong straight right hand and he has become skilled at slipping opponents punches.  Although Williams uses his jab and straight right hand the most frequently, he also has a nice short left hook and from the pocket does a nice job of landing uppercuts with his right hand.  Cuello is a much different fighter than Williams is.  Williams is a boxer, or even a boxer-puncher.  Cuello is a brawler who will often come forward behind no jab, instead just putting his ear muffs on and walking in.  Cuello loves to fight from the pocket and doesn't work much from the outside.  When he gets in close he lets loose his wild overhand right and an awkward looking left hook.  When it comes to footwork Cuello might as well be wearing cement shoes because he stands still and doesn't punch until his opponent has finished punching him.  This fight should make Williams look very good because he will be easily able to land straight punches from the outside and his quickness can allow him to stay in the pocket and touch Cuello up without taking much return fire.  If Cuello wins this fight it will be from a wild homerun punch but that punch will probably never come.  Williams is going to absolutely dominate this fight by the way of unanimous decision.

Moises Flores vs. Luis Emanuel Cusolito: The co-feature of Tuesday's card will be a 12-round fight for Moises Flores' (23-0, 16 KO) WBA interim junior featherweight belt.  Flores won that belt by beating Oscar Escandon in early 2015 and this will be his first defense of that title.  Flores will be challenged by Argentinian slugger Luis Emanuel Cusolito (21-1, 19 KO).  It should be a fun scrap consider Cusolito has scored five knockouts in a row while Flores has knocked out four of his last six opponents.  Flores is an orthodox fighter who has a nice one-two combination.  While that jab and straight right hand allow Flores to find success from the outside, in true Mexican style he isn't opposed to banging it out at close range and flashes a strong left hook.  While Flores does open up too much when he goes on the attack he hasn't paid the price yet and usually finishes opponents with his wicked left hook before they can really test his chin.  Cusolito is also an orthodox fighter and he has plenty of power, at least against sub par opponents.  Much like Flores, Cusolito has a nice jab and straight right hand but he is more patient than his Mexican counterpart.  Cusolito will throw a wild right hand but he isn't a very busy fighter and doesn't like to mix things up on the inside.  Also, his left hook is nothing to right home about so all Flores need to watch out for is the wild right hand.  This fight brings an interesting contrast of styles.  Flores can fight on the outside but also likes to get in the pocket.  Meanwhile Cusolito isn't very busy and likes to stay on the outside for the entirety of most of his fights.  In this fight the work rate and aggression of Flores should give him the advantage and he will get the win via 8th round stoppage.
