De Lay Hoya could be a future star
Diego De La Hoya vs. Jesus Ruiz: This Friday Diego De La Hoya (11-0, 7 KO) will once again continue his climb to becoming a star.  De Lay Hoya will be fighting Jesus Ruiz (34-6-5, 23 KO) in a 10-round bout in the featherweight division.  The fight will be on Estrella TV so it may take some serious searching to find, but with De La Hoya in action the search should be worth it.  As most fans already know, De La Hoya is the cousin of the Golden Boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya and that last name has certainly helped his young career.  De Lay Hoya is an orthodox fighter with very quick hands and flashes a good looking jab.  That jab helps him set up some of his other punches and he has a very nice left hook.  Along with the damage he can do with his left hand De La Hoya is also skilled with the right and can throw it in a variety of ways, most impressively as an uppercut.  For such a young fighter at only 21 years old it is impressive that De La Hoya goes to the body so often and he does an excellent job of varying his attack.  While De La Hoya appears to have the tools to become a star in the future the hype train can't get moving too fast yet because the young fighter is still facing low level opposition.  Ruiz is also a young fighter, entering the ring on Friday at 25 years old and he has fought a ton for such a young fighter.  Ruiz has faced a much higher level of competition but he has mostly been brought in to play the role of opponent.  His biggest fight came against Leo Santa Cruz and Ruiz lasted 8 rounds before being stopped.  Ruiz is also an orthodox fighter and he likes to work his jab and puts a lot behind it.  Ruiz, like De La Hoya has some pop on his punches but unlike the cousin of the Golden Boy, Ruiz punches come in very wide.  His left hook is probably his best punch and doesn't come in as wide as his wild overhand right.  At this point of De La Hoya's career he isn't going to be in the ring with anyone who poses a serious threat to his unbeaten record, so expect Ruiz to be a tough opponent who can give De La Hoya some good rounds.  For Ruiz becoming a 7-loss fighter at such a young age would really hurt his career so he should come into the fight highly motivated.  That motivation will allow Ruiz to put in some good work but that won't be enough to hand De La Hoya his first career loss and De La Hoya will get the unanimous decision victory.
