ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Picks

On Friday Douglas will look to remain unbeaten
Antoine Douglas vs. Istvan Szili: Friday night Showtime will bring fans another edition of their ShoBox: The New Generation series.  The series features young prospects looking to make a name for themselves as the rise in the ranks and hopefully reach contender status.  Antoine Douglas (17-0-1, 11 KO) is one of those prospects and he will be headlining Friday's card against Istvan Szili (18-0-2, 8 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds and it will take place in the middleweight division.  Douglas is a very young fighter at only 22 years old and although he hasn't yet taken on any notable names, that is expected for a young prospect.  As for Szili, he is a 32-year-old from Hungary but the majority of his fights have taken place in Switzerland, not a country known for its plethora of boxing talent.  Szili hasn't faced a very high level of opposition either and most of his opponents were average fighters.  Douglas is a fighter who plies his trade from the orthodox stance and he likes to let his hands go on the inside.  Douglas does have a pretty solid jab which should help him going forward and he also has a nice looking left hook.  The young Douglas is at his best at close range, where he flashes quick hands and a relentless style.  However, he tends to always come straight in and often pulls straight back on defense and as he continues to take on tougher fighters he will need to adjust that and use better footwork.  Szili is also an orthodox fighter and he has a solid build that makes him look larger than Douglas.  While Szili doesn't have very fast hands he does throw all of his punches in a very compact manner and that allows him to find success as a counter puncher.  Szili's jab is alright but not great, however, he does throw a very nice uppercut and he also bangs to the body very well.  The left hook of Szili is decent but his right hand is awkward looking and it almost looks as if he is pushing or forcing the punch forward.  Also Szili tends to drop his off hand when throwing to the body which is something Douglas can take advantage of if he notices it.  At such a young age it is obvious that Douglas is the fighter with the higher ceiling and that will show on Friday night when Douglas boxes his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Magomedov will also try to remain unbeaten
Arif Magomedov vs. Derrick Webster: Friday's co-feature will also be a 10-round bout between middleweight prospects.  The bout will be between the unbeaten Arif Magomedov (15-0, 9 KO) out of Russia and Derrick Webster (19-0, 10 KO) who fights out of New Jersey.  Neither fighter has any really impressive names on their resumes but Magomedov has only fought in the U.S. twice, which happened to be his last two fights.  In those fights he was tested against Darnell Boone, and Derrick Findley, two fighters whose records look awful but both have the ability to upset the apple card, especially Boone who holds a knockout win over Adonis Stevenson.  Magomedov was able to knock Boone out in the very 1st round of their fight.  Webster also faced Boone and was able to win, although his win was less impressive, getting it via a split decision.  Magomedov is an orthodox fighter who throws a reaching jab and has the ability to stick it to the belly frequently.  Magomedov is a patient fighter and he profiles as more of a boxer than puncher but he does have quick hands with a nice left hook.  However, his big weapon is his right hand and it can puts opponents down and out.  Across the ring will be Webster who is a southpaw and a very tall middleweight coming in at 6-foot 4-inches tall which gives him a 5-inch height advantage over Magomedov.  That height gives Webster a long jab and he also has a dangerous right hook.  Webster, like Magomedov, has quick hands and Webster flashes a nice looking straight left hand.  However, Webster has been mostly a club fighter and may not have the same pedigree that Magomedov does.  While this should be a fairly even fight eventually Magomedov will pull ahead and get the win by the way of unanimous decision.
