PBC on CBS Quick Picks

Frampton makes his U.S. debut on Saturday
Carl Frampton vs. Alejandro Gonzalez Jr.: The PBC returns to CBS this Saturday afternoon with a very good fighter headlining the card.  That fighter is Carl Frampton (20-0, 14 KO) and on Saturday he will be making his U.S. debut against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. (25-1-2, 15 KO).  The fight is scheduled to go 12 rounds and Frampton's IBF junior featherweight title will be on the line.  That junior featherweight division is very stacked right now and if Frampton makes a name for himself in the U.S. he could be in line for some big fights like he already is over in the U.K..  Frampton is an orthodox fighter who possesses very quick hands.  Typically Frampton likes to flash the jab a time or two which helps set up his stiff straight right hand and lighting fast left hook.  Another thing that Frampton does very well is use his feet and he can get in and out quickly.  However at times on the inside we will throw combinations that last a punch or two too long which can get him in trouble, something that Amir Khan also used to do, although Frampton has a much better chin than Khan does.  Perhaps the most exciting aspect of Frampton's games is that long with his fast hands he has good power and seems to love to mix things up, always giving fans a good show.  Gonzalez is also an orthodox fighter and he carries a quick jab into the ring.  Along with that jab Gonzalez also throws a wild overhand right and a monster left hook.  Yet as good as Gonzalez has looked in some of his fights, most of those fights have come against sub par competition and Gonzalez has never seen anyone near the level of a Frampton.  This should be an exciting fight because both guys have solid power and both like to mix things up.  However, Frampton has been fighting at a higher level and he is the more skilled fighter and he will win this fight by the way of 9th round stoppage.

Arreola did not have an easy time against Harper
Chris Arreola vs. Fred Kassi: The co-feature for Saturday afternoon's PBC  card will feature a former contender turned fan favorite in Chris Arreola (36-4, 31 KO).  Arreola will be taking on Fred Kassi (18-3, 10 KO) who suffered a brutal knockout at the hands of Amir Mansour in his last bout.  This fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the heavyweight division but could end up being stopped before the final bell has rung.  Not too long ago Arreola was viewed as a legitimate contender and got a crack at then title holder Vitali Klitschko, who badly beat Arreola.  Then Arreola lost to Tomasz Adamek but even then was still viewed as a solid contender.  Then came Bermane Stiverne who broke Arreola's nose in their first fight which was a win for Stiverne then Stiverne stopped him in the 6th round of their rematch.  Now Arreola remains a fun fighter to watch but one with too many flaws to compete against the best the division has to offer.  Arreola is an orthodox fighter with a ton of power.  Everything Arreola throws can do damage, even his jab, but he tends to be wild with his punches.  He does have a heavy left hook and his best punch is probably his overhand right but both of those punches are wild.  The biggest problem for Arreola is defense, and conditioning.  Arreola typically takes a lot of punishment and his chin has let him down recently, and he also fades in fights because he is never in great physical condition.  Kassi is a switch hitter and can fight from the orthodox or southpaw stance.  Kassi usually shows a good jab and a nice straight right hand out of the orthodox stance.  Kassi has a similar problem to Arreola in that he also throws his punches wildly.  Also Kassi doesn't move around the ring very well and he isn't that far removed from his brutal one punch knockout at the hands of Mansour.  This fight will bring excitement without a doubt but it will be Arreola who gets the better of the action and wins the fight via 8th round stoppage.
