ShoBox: The New Generation Quick Pick

Dominic Wade vs. Sam Soliman: Friday night on Showtime brings fans another edition of ShoBox: The New Generation.  It will be an interesting fight between a rising prospect in Dominic Wade (17-0, 12 KO) and a veteran in Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 KO) who is looking to hang on.  The two prizefighters are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the middleweight division and make no mistake, it is an important fight for both men.  Wade is a good looking prospect but he really only has one fight against a legit opponent.  That fight was against Nick Brinson in 2014 and besides that fight Wade has faced a slew of average and sub par fighters.  Soliman may not be the fighter he once was but he has a ton of experience against quality pugilists like Jermain Taylor, Felix Sturm, Sakio Bika, and Winky Wright.  It remains to be seen of Soliman can even stand on two legs though.  In his most recent fight against Taylor, Soliman whose movement and awkwardness is his best weapon, injured his right leg which put him at a severe disadvantage.  If Soliman's movement is restricted like it was in that fight he has no chance to beat Wade.  Wade is an orthodox fighter who has quick hands and likes to shoot the jab from his hip.  He flashes a good straight right hand and a quick left hook and he seems to have a relaxed style in the ring.  That relaxed style could get Wade in trouble going forward though, he often keeps his hands low and doesn't seem to worry much about return fire.  Luckily for Wade, Soliman does have much power on his punches so even if he can take advantage of Wade's low hands he probably doesn't have enough pop to drop him.  Soliman's style can be best described as the illegitimate love child of Sergio Martinez and Vic Darchinyan's styles.  He fights with his chin out in a sort of leaned over crouch with both hands hanging low.  Soliman fights out of the orthodox stance and while he has a good jab he often likes to jab then get inside and clinch up and bang his right hand to the body.  Soliman certainly has the ability to frustrate top fighters and he has a good chin and a ton of heart which he showcased in his fight with Taylor.  The problem for Soliman is that father time seems to have caught up to him and Wade is catching him at the perfect time.  Soliman will frustrate Wade early but eventually the younger fighter will figure him out and win the fight by the way of unanimous decision.
