Friday Night Fights Quick Picks

Friday Night Fights will be ending its 17-year run this Friday.  The series will be replaced by a monthly Premiere Boxing Champions card which will appear on regular ESPN.  So for its final fight card Friday Night Fights will bring fans their Boxcino Tournament championship fights.  Both the heavyweight and junior middleweights will be featured on Friday's card each going 10 rounds with the winners becoming Boxcino champions and the last fighters to win on a Friday Night Fights card.  Now lets get to the picks...

Donovan Dennis vs. Andrey Fedosov: The two heavyweights who made it to the championship round of the Boxcino Tournament did so in very similar ways.  Donovan Dennis (12-1, 10 KO) scored a 4th round stoppage in the opening round of the tournament and then followed that up with a 2nd round knockout that sent him to the finals.  Andrey Fedosov (27-3, 22 KO) opened up the tournament with a 1st round stoppage then added a 3rd round knockout to make it to the finals.  As far as fighting styles are concerned however, the two fighters are much different.  Dennis is an athletic southpaw with a good jab.  Along with that jab Dennis also has a fairly decent straight left hand and a big time overhand left that can turn an opponents lights out.  While Fedosov is the physically smaller fighter he does have more power than Dennis.  Dennis moves better in the ring than Fedosov, who likes to stand flat footed.  Those flat feet may be the reason Fedosov got dropped in his last bout.  He got caught with a straight left hand and that will be a punch Dennis looks to land early.  Fedosov doesn't have much of a jab but he does have a nice left hook and right hand and he attacks the body well.  Also, Fedosov has a good straight right hand that he uses well on the inside.  While Dennis may look good early with his straight punches and movement it won't last because the pressure of Fedosov will eventually wear him down.  Fedosov is a heavy hitter and he will win the fight via 6th round knockout.

Brandon Adams vs. John Thompson: Once again Brandon Adams (17-1, 12 KO) finds himself in the Boxcino Tournament finals.  Last year Adams lost in the middleweight finals to Willie Monroe Jr., and this year he hopes to win the junior middleweight version of the tournament.  Adams will be taking on John Thompson (16-1, 5 KO) who will play the slick boxer to the puncher that is Adams.  Adams is an orthodox fighter who loves to apply the pressure.  Adams has a good left hook and right hand and he also throws a very nice uppercut on the inside.  Adams must be feeling some deja vu right now because just like in last years finals he will be facing a slick boxer who is taller than him.  This time around it will be Thompson who is a long orthodox fighter.  Thompson has a pretty good jab and a nice straight right hand, along with those punches Thompson also has a left hook although it isn't a great punch.  If Adams learned his lesson from fighting Monroe than Thompson may be in for some trouble.  Thompson isn't a very active fighter and relies and sticking and moving to control the distance and win fights.  As for Adams he likes to be the aggressor and does a nice job of cutting off the ring so he can pound away at his opponents.  While Thompson is a good fighter who had a nice win in the semi-final round of the tournament it is Adams who has the experience going this deep in the tournament and from the get go he has looked like the favorite to win the entire thing.  While Thompson may make Adams work hard for his win he will get that win by the way of 8th round stoppage.
