UniMas Quick Pick

Felix Verdejo vs. Marco Antonio Lopez: The time for Felix Verdejo's (16-0, 12 KO) first 10 round bout is finally upon us.  Verdejo will be in the ring against Mexico's Marco Antonio Lopez (24-5, 15 KO) once again renewing the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry.  Ask most boxing heads who the next pound for pound greats are and two names will be heard, Verdejo and Errol Spence Jr.  Verdejo will look to get started on his path to greatness on Saturday night on UniMas.  He and Lopez are will do battle in the lightweight division, which now seems wide open.  Verdejo is an orthodox fighter with very fast hands and good power.  His jab will be a great weapon moving forward but it is his power that puts fear in opponents.  Verdejo is almost terrifyingly good at such a young age and like former lightweight kingpin Terence Crawford, he can fight either as an orthodox or southpaw fighter.  As an orthodox fighter Verdejo has a great left hook and a solid right hand, as a southpaw his right hook becomes a deadly weapon and his left hand, which comes in a bit wild, is also a force to be reckoned with.  As for Lopez, he has been knocked out three times in his five losses and appears to be nothing more than a beatable opponent.  Lopez has faced a higher level of opposition than Verdejo has but Lopez has lost all of his step up fights and he won't have an easy night against the rising Puerto Rican star.  Lopez is an orthodox fighter who likes to throw punches in bunches but doesn't have very fast hands.  He will often come forward without throwing a jab and looks to land heavy punches, although his hands aren't very heavy.  Typically Lopez will throw a lot of left hooks and right hands, and while he throws them with bad intentions they usually come in a mile wide.  This fight is all about showcasing Verdejo and he will handle Lopez on his way to a 5th round knockout.
