Fox Deportes Quick Picks

Pablo Cesar Cano vs. Jorge Silva: Usually young fighters aren't described as being desperate for a win.  That is typically reserved for aging fighters looking to stay relevant or in title contention.  However tonight's Fox Deportes main event will be headlined by two fighters both under 26 years old who are in serious need of a victory.  Pablo Cesar Cano (27-4-1, 20 KO) will be taking on Jorge Silva (20-6-2, 16 KO) in a 10 round bout in the welterweight division.  Cano is 2-3 in his last five bouts with losses against Shane Mosley and Paulie Malignaggi while Silva is 1-4 in his last five with the only notable opponent being Alfredo Angulo.  Cano is an orthodox fighter who likes to be aggressive.  He does good work with his left hand and will throw a short left hook as well as a sneaky uppercut.  Cano also has a straight right hand that he likes to stick to the body but it is his left hand that does most of the damage.  Silva is also an aggressive orthodox fighter.  He has a quick jab he flashes often and he also throws a wild overhand right.  The wild punching of Silva does get him in trouble on defense and that is something Cano needs to capitalize on.  Look for Cano to counter Silva's wild overhand right with his strong left hook and uppercut and win the fight via 9th round stoppage.

Vic Darchinyan vs. Juan Jimenez: The co-feature  of tonight's Fox Deportes card will be headlined by skilled veteran Vic Darchinyan (39-7-1, 28 KO).  The 39-year-old Darchinyan will be taking on Juan Jimenez (19-8, 12 KO) who is 16 years his junior.  The fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior featherweight division where Darchinyan really needs a win following back to back losses to Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters, both by knockout.  Darchinyan must be looking at this bout as a tune-up fight considering his opponent has never faced anyone nearly as talented as Darchinyan and has been knocked out seven times in his eight losses.  Darchinyan is an awkward southpaw whose right hand seems to be in constant motion to distract opponents although he doesn't throw many jabs.  What Darchinyan does throw is a short right hook and a heavy left hand.  The problem for him is that he has been through many brutal fights and may be shot at this point which his recent 2-4 record seems to back up.  As for Jimenez there is virtually no tape of him online which is never a good sign and usually means a fighter has been in a lot of low level fights.  What tape could be found of Jimenez shows an orthodox fighter who is very wild.  He throws a left hook and a nice right hand but he tends to unleash his punches very wide and wild and Darchinyan should have no problem countering his wide punches.  Darchinyan shot or not should be able to control this fight and win it by the way of 6th round stoppage.
