Fox Deportes Quick Pick

Cano hopes to get back into the win column
Ivan Cano vs. John Carlos Aparicio: Saturday's Fox Deportes card probably doesn't have many fans, if any at all, buzzing.  There are no real big names on the card but what the card will offer is competitive fights.  The main event will be a 10 round, lightweight bout between Ivan Cano (22-6-2, 15 KO) and John Carlo Aparicio (27-8, 21 KO).  Cano is an orthodox fighter who likes to work his jab, straight right hand combination, and finds success doing so.  While he doesn't have the fastest hands in the sport he does have a sneaky good left hook.  Cano's right hand, when he isn't throwing it straight, tends to get wild but it is probably his heaviest punch.  Defensively Cano isn't great but he is good enough that he doesn't take a huge beating.  His only knockout loss came against Dierry Jean in the championship rounds but his chin is certainly not made of glass.  A question mark surrounding Cano is how much he has left.  He isn't an old fighter but in his past five bouts he has gone 1-2-2 and is coming off back-to-back draws against Javier Prieto, and draws can be career killers, or at the very least, roadblocks.  Cano will be facing off against another orthodox fighter on Aparicio.  Aparicio looks like he suffers from overconfidence.  He has fairly quick reflexes and perhaps because of that he thinks he can slip punches he actually can't and he does a horrendous job or tucking his chin.  The orhodox Aparicio actually has a nice, quick jab but he doesn't use it nearly as often as he should.  He does have a decent left hook although it comes in wide, but his best punch is his right hand which can hurt fighters when he catches them with it.  Aparicio likes to counter but may have a tough time doing so against Cano.  This will be a close, competitive fight that Cano will win via majority decision.
