Fox Sports 1 Quick Picks

Eric Hunter vs. Rene Alvarado: With the Deontay Wilder win last Saturday night and the upcoming rubber match between Mike Alvarado and Brandon Rios this upcoming Saturday it's easy for Tuesday Fox Sports 1 card to get lost in the shuffle.  The main event of that card will be a bout between Eric Hunter (19-3, 10 KO) and Rene Alvarado (21-3, 14 KO).  The two prizefighters are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the featherweight division and should give fans a good show.  Hunter is a talented southpaw who also has a reputation of being somewhat of a dirty fighter.  He has three career losses and two of those were because of disqualifications.  Hunter fights out of the orthodox stance and has very fast hands yet for some reason he doesn't use his jab as much as he should.  He does have a nice short left hook and a very accurate straight right hand but he needs to keep his cool.  Alvarado is also an orthodox fighter and he is much more aggressive than Hunter is.  He does have a busy jab although it isn't very effective and he does his best work with his right hand that he bangs to the body.  That body work will be important against the quicker Hunter.  This fight is all about the aggression of Alvarado against the speed of Hunter.  As long as Hunter keeps his cool he should be able to counter Alvarado and move enough to stay out of danger which will give him the split decision victory.

Michael Perez vs. Miguel Acosta: Tuesday's co-feature will be a battle between youth and experience.  Michael Perez (21-1-2, 10 KO) is a young prospect on his way up and he will be taking on veteran and former title holder Miguel Acosta (29-7-2, 23 KO).  The two are scheduled to go 10 rounds in the junior welterweight division and it could end up being a quick night of work.  Perez's only career loss came against the talented Omar Figueroa and aside from a few disappointing draws he is usually able to outbox opponents by wide margins.  Don't expect Perez to be very busy though.  He does use his jab a lot and he has fast hands with a nice straight right.  However Perez doesn't use his left hook very much and he has been dropped a few times in his career which is dangerous against the heavy handed Acosta.  Perez will need to keep his jab in the face of Acosta and keep the fight on the outside.  As for Acosta he does have heavy hands but he also has a glass chin.  In his past five bouts he has gone 1-4 and he has been dropped eight times including three times against Brandon Rios.  Also Acosta didn't fight at all in 2014 and has last his last three fights.  The problem for the orthodox Acosta is that he doesn't fight behind a jab, instead he comes come straight ahead.  He will have the slower hands in this bout and he tends to get very wilder with his left hook and overhand right.  Acosta definitely has a punchers chance and could put Perez to sleep but the quicker Perez should be able to stick and move on his way to a unanimous decision win, even if he has to get off the canvas to do it.
