beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Javier Mendoza vs. Mauricio Fuentes: On Saturday night do your best to find the channel beIN Sports Espanol because there will be some exciting fighters in action.  The main event of that card will feature the power punching Javier Mendoza (22-2-1, 18 KO) taking on Mauricio Fuentes (17-3, 11 KO) in a 10 round flyweight bout.  For fans who like to see guys get hit and hit back Mendoza is your guy.  He is a young southpaw who rarely throws a jab and usually just comes straight forward and doesn't mind eating a few punches to get inside.  Mendoza's right hook is nice and he likes to bring it downstairs but he does the most damage with his left hand.  Don't expect to see Mendoza trade punches from the outside, he likes to get in close and bang to the body.  Defense is not Mendoza's strong suit and he has been knocked out once and hurt in other fights so his chin is still a big question.  This fight might be a massacre.  Fuentes does not like to be pressured, something Mendoza does very well.  Also Fuentes seems almost scared in the ring and always backing up.  While he does have seventeen career wins he has never beating a fighter with a winning record and his defense and chin and both very bad.  Fuentes actually puts combinations together fairly well but he hands aren't very fast and his left hooks are very wide which leaves him open for return fire.  Don't get up to grab another beer during this fight because it won't last long as Mendoza runs through Fuentes with a 3rd round knockout.

Edivaldo Ortega vs. Christian Esquivel: The co-feature of Saturday's card could also be a one sided fight.  That is because the unbeaten Edivaldo Ortega (19-0-1, 10 KO) will be facing off against Christian Esquivel (27-5, 20 KO) in a 10 round bout in the junior featherweight division.  While Esquivel's record doesn't look horrible a close look reveals that all five of his losses came by the way of knockout and he always seems to lose to his best opponents.  Ortega is a southpaw with a busy, measuring stick jab and a very strong straight left hand.  He also has a short, awkward looking right hook and left hand but with that also comes an uppercut that he finds success with on the inside.  As for Esquivel he is an orthodox fighter with a nice jab and a strange right hand that looks like he is pushing it forward.  One problem Esquivel has is that he falls in with his punches and that allows his opponents to put a hurting on him.  Esquivel is coming off of a 4th round knockout loss and this fight could be much of the same.  Ortega will control the action in this one on his way to a victory by the way of 7th round stoppage.
