Fox Deportes Quick Picks

Ramon Alvarez vs. Vivian Harris: It may not be the highest profile fight card on Saturday night but Big Time Boxing fans will take any action they can get.  The main even of that card will feature Ramon Alvarez (20-4-2, 12 KO) a fighter who is known more for being the brother of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez then for his own accomplishments.  Alvarez will be in the ring with veteran Vivian Harris (32-9-2, 19 KO) in a 12 round junior middleweight bout.  Alvarez is an orthodox fighter with very heavy feet who plows forward behind a stiff jab and right hand.  Alvarez also has a pretty nice left hook but he doesn't have a tremendous amount of power.  One thing Alvarez does well just like his brother is bang to the body and that along with his aggressive style is what allows him to win fights.  Harris is also an orthodox fighter and he likes to fight behind a very busy jab.  Harris also has a solid left hook and a strong right hand although he throws it very wildly.  In the hand speed department Harris will have the advantage and the same goes experience.  While Alvarez has never faced any top quality opponents Harris has done battle with Junior Witter, Lucas Matthysse, Victor Ortiz, and Jessie Vargas.  The winner of this bout will be the fighter who controls the distance.  Alvarez likes to fight in a phone booth while Harris is better served staying on the outside where he can stick his jab and move.  The aggressiveness of Alvarez should be the difference in this fight, he will be able to get inside on Harris on hurt his body and his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Horacio Garcia vs. Jose Silveria: The co-feature of Saturday's Fox Deportes card should really just be a showcase for the 24 year old Horacio Garcia (27-0, 19 KO).  Garcia will be in the ring with journeyman Jose Silveria (15-11, 6 KO) in a 10 round bantamweight bout.  Garcia has been perfect as a professional but he has been heavily protected and still hasn't fought any quality opponents.  Silveria has faced some top opponents but only to be used as a look good fight like he was against Jessie Magdaleno and Rau'shee Warren.  In fact in Silveria's last ten bouts he has a record of 3-7 so for him to beat Garcia would be a big upset.  Garcia is still a big question mark but he does have a nice quick jab.  His left hook is also solid and he brings it to the body nicely.  However it is the right hand of Garcia that does the most damage and that can end fights.  Silveria doesn't have much power but his best punch would be hist left hook to the body.  Unfortunately for Silveria that is really his only effective punch.  His jab isn't great and he tends to fall in with his punches.  Defensively Silveria is there to be hit and he doesn't move well in the ring at all.  This probably won't be a very exciting fight because it should be all Garcia from start to finish as he wins the fight by the way of unanimous decision.
