beIN Sports Espanol Quick Picks

Miura won't give up his title easily
Takashi Miura vs. Edgar Puerta: The fight card getting all the buzz is this Saturday's PPV showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri.  However for fans who don't want to shell out $60 there is still hope in the form of a fight card on beIN Sports Espanol.  There will be two title fights on the card with the main event being a 12 round bout between Takashi Miura (27-2-2, 20 KO) and Edgar Puerta (23-4-1, 19 KO) for Miura's WBC junior lightweight title.  When many sports fans think of Japanese athletes the image of a polite, reserved baseball player might come into mind.  In boxing however things are much different.  Japanese fighters are not known for having the highest of skill levels but they are known for having a tremendous amount of heart and always giving fans a great show with their stand and trade style.  Miura is a southpaw who likes to do battle on the inside.  He has somewhat of an awkward Japanese style but does throw a decent jab.  His favorite punch is his left hand and he will throw it from seemingly every angle.  His problem is that on defense he tends to retreat straight back which allows opponents to catch him clean and he has been knocked out before.  This should be a fan friendly fight because Puerta also likes to mix it up from close range.  He is an orthodox fighter with a strong left hook he likes to dig to the body.  Puerta also has a solid right hand that he will throw from different angles but like Miura he is also there to be countered.  While Puerta has looked very good over his last twelve or so fights and has been scoring many stoppages they have all come against sub par opposition.  Mirua has been fighting the better opponents recently and that will show on Saturday night as Miura gets the win via majority decision.

Gonzalez is one of the best in the sport
Roman Gonzalez vs. Rocky Fuentes: The co-feature for Saturday beIN Sports Espanol card is really the fight that can't be missed.  Not because it is the best matchup but because it features one of the best fighters in the world, and one most casual fans have probably never heard of, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (40-0, 34 KO).  The reason many fans aren't more familiar with Gonzalez is because he fights in the flyweight division which isn't exactly very popular.  Gonzalez will look to remain perfect as he takes on Rocky Fuentes (35-7-2, 20 KO) in a 12 round bout for Gonzalez's WBC flyweight title.  Gonzalez is an orthodox fighter with a tremendous amount of power for such a small man.  His defense is good but the really beauty of Gonzalez is his offensive game.  He has a solid jab and a right hand that he will either throw straight or overhand and both are effective.  Gonzalez also has a deadly left hook that he can throw upstairs or dig to the body and he seems to be mastering the art of landing a punch and doing just enough moving to avoid return fire.  Gonzalez will also start off a lot of his combinations with an uppercut and he really hurts opponents with that punch.  While Rocky Fuentes is a solid fighter not many people give him a chance to win.  The only fighter who posses a threat to Gonzalez is Juan Francisco Estrada who Gonzalez beat in 2012.  Fuentes is a wild fighter who looks to land homerun punches but who takes a lot of punishment because of that.  he fights out of the orthodox stance and has a very solid jab which is his sharpest punch.  Fuentes also has a powerful left hook but it comes in very wide and should give Gonzalez plenty of chances to counter it.  Look for Fuentes to come in throwing wild haymaker punches because catching Gonzalez off guard or off balance is his only chance at winning.  Fuentes is very wild and the sharp skills of Gonzalez will be able to exploit that.  Fuentes may show some heart and he hasn't been stopped since 2005 but that won't be enough against Gonzalez who will win the fight by the way of 6th round stoppage.
