Fox Sports 1 Quick Picks

Ronny Rios vs. Robinson Castellanos: Fox Sports 1 will air two live fights tomorrow night.  While neither fight should have boxing fans all that excited some boxing is better than none.  The main event of that card will be a bout between the undefeated Ronny Rios (23-0, 10 KO) and Robinson Castellanos (19-10, 12 KO) and is set to go 10 rounds in the junior lightweight division.  Clearly Rios is the one to watch in this fight but even with his impressive record he is yet to face any real talent.  Rios is at his best on the inside.  His defense isn't great and he tends to take a lot of clean punches when he tries to box from the outside.  He also doesn't have a very good jab which is why he doesn't find much success on the outside.  When the orthodox Rios gets inside he is able to land his left hook and right hand to the body  and smother his opponents punches.  His opponent Castellanos may have an ugly record but that can be deceiving.  While he lost his last fight before that he hadn't lost since 2010.  Castellanos has a decent job and a solid straight right hand and he is pretty adept at landing punches from the outside.  However Rios is much younger and shouldn't have too difficult a time getting inside on Castellanos which will allow him to win this fight via unanimous decision.

Antonio Orozco vs. Steve Forbes: The co-feature of Friday's card will be nothing more than a showcase fight for the unbeaten Antonio Orozco (20-0, 15 KO).  Orozco will be taking on veteran Steve Forbes (35-13, 11 KO) in a 10 round welterweight bout.  The reason this will be nothing more than a showcase for Orozco is because since 2006 Forbes has a record of 3-10 and he has lost his last five bouts in a row.  Orozco is an orthodox boxer puncher who fights equally well from the outside and at close range.  He has a pretty good jab along with a strong left hook.  Orozco also has a strong overhand right in his bag of tools and his quick reflexes allow him to be a good defensive fighter.  Forbes will have a big advantage as far as experience having fought Oscar De La Hoya and Andre Berto but that is the only thing Forbes has on Orozco.  Forbes actually still has his plus jab and good left hook but he is nowhere near the fighter he once was and now only enters the ring as an opponent.  The only aspect of this fight that should be interesting is to see whether or not Orozco can knock Forbes out.  Forbes has thirteen losses but has only been knocked out once.  Still even if he doesn't score the knockout Orozco should look good and win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.
