Telemundo Quick Pick

Carmona wants another title shot
David Carmona vs. Martin Casillas: This Friday will be a busy one for boxing with four different fight cards scheduled.  The one that will probably get overlooked will be on Telemundo because it doesn't feature the biggest names.  It does however feature a pugilist who is one fight removed from fighting for the title.  That fighter is the young David Carmona (16-2-4, 8 KO) who lost his last fight to Omar Andres Narvaez via 7th round stoppage.  Carmona will look to add a win to his resume and get closer to another shot at the title when he faces off against fellow Mexican Martin Casillas (14-3, 8 KO) in a 10 round junior bantamweight bout.  Carmona is an orthodox fighter with quick hands who isn't the busiest of punchers.  He doesn't use his jab much for offense and instead looks to land left hooks, especially to the body.  Along with that left hook Carmona has a nice overhand right and while he does everything well he doesn't do anything great.  His defense is a question and consists of throwing his jab to parry punches and a lot of clinching.  Carmona's opponent Casillas also isn't great defensively and he is the less technically sound of the two.  Casillas is also an orthodox fighter and he has slightly more power than Carmona does and is also more aggressive.  He doesn't have much of a job either and likes to throw a lot of left hooks and wild right hands.  This could be a fun fight because both fighters are fairly similar and neither one excels on defense.  I expect Carmona to be the sharper boxer in this bout and land the cleaner punches on his way to a unanimous decision win.
