ShoBox Quick Pick

Antoine Douglas vs. Michel Soro: Showtime's boxing series ShoBox: The New Generation has long been a proving ground for young prospects looking to become stars.  That will be no different this Friday when the young, undefeated prospect Antoine Douglas (14-0, 9 KO) takes on Michel Soro (23-1, 13 KO) in a 10 round middleweight fight.  Douglas is only 21 years old and has looked good in his young career.  He has a good jab he likes to double and sometimes even triple up and he brings a strong straight right hand behind it.  Douglas also does a good job of staying in the pocket but moving his head to slip punches.  Along with his straight right hand he also has an overhand right which may be his heaviest punch but it is also his wildest.  Although Douglas has looked impressive thus far he still has some learning to do and will sometimes drop his opposite hand when he throws a punch.  He also hasn't faced much quality opposition so as he continues to step up he will also need to continue improving.  Soro is another young fighter who hasn't faced many top opponents.  Soro fights out of France which isn't exactly a boxing hotbed and the only time he fought outside of France came in 2012 when he lost to Zaurbek Baysangurov in Ukraine.  While Soro isn't well know in the U.S. he is a quality fighter with a solid jab out of the orthodox stance.  The French pugilist also throws a very nice left hook that he goes often to the body with but his best punch is his right hand which he can end a fight with.  This is a very even fight that could easily go either way.  Douglas may be looked at as a slight favorite and the fighter who has the higher ceiling but he can't sleep on Soro.  A big question for this fight is how Soro will look in only his second time outside of France.  If Soro can handle fighting in the U.S. and puts in good body work early he could get himself a nice win.  Both fighters should have good futures but I think the heavy body punching of Soro will be the difference and he will win this fight by the way of majority decision.
