Rene Alvarado vs. Rocky Juarez: Tonight on Fox Sports 1 two fan friendly fighters will do battle. For Rene Alvarado (20-2, 14 KO) this 12 round fight in the featherweight is about adding a nice name to his resume. For Rocky Juarez (29-10-1, 21 KO) the fight is about keeping his career alive. This fight could provide fans with a lot of excitement because of the styles of both men. Alvarado is an orthodox fighter with a quick jab and a solid straight right hand he brings behind it. He typically will walk opponents down and use his fast hands to throw punches in bunches. Alvarado isn't a one punch knockout fighter and usually gets his knockdowns and knockouts from an accumulation of work. One thing Alvarado does very well especially later in fights is dig his left hook to the body which takes the legs away from his opponents. One reason Alvarado has been able to be so aggressive and successful is his strong chin, he doesn't move very well on defense but he can certainly take a punch. Alvarado will be up against another aggressive fighter in Juarez who at one time was a big name in the sport. Juarez was having himself a nice career until the wheels fell off in 2009. From 2009 to 2012 Juarez fought six times and lost them all. He finally got a win in October of 2012 but hasn't fought since. Juarez does have a lot of experience against top fighters however and has been in the ring with Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, Chris John, and Jorge Linares while Alvarado has never fought anyone at that level. In his ten losses Juarez has never been knocked out. However that doesn't mean he has a great chin, Juarez has been dropped many times but has a ton of heart and always finds a way to get to his feet and continue. Still that style of fighting has seen Juarez in many wars and in his mid-30's and not having fought in two years he could show a lot of ring rust. Most of the time when Juarez throws punches they are crooked ones and he always seems to look for the knockout. Juarez likes to fight on the inside and goes to the body well. His best punch is his powerful short right hand that seems to stop opponents in their tracks but that punch is usually only successful from the inside. If Juarez can land his right hand from the inside Alvarado may find himself in some trouble. However after a two year layoff and many wars in the ring I think Juarez will show some rust and give away nearly all of the early rounds to the younger, quicker Alvarado who will win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.
