Rivera looks to upset the undefeated Filipino
Julian Rivera vs. Joebert Alvarez: As most big time boxing fans know there are way to many title belts in boxing these days.  An example of one of the titles that doesn't really mean anything to anyone will be found this Friday night on Telemundo.  Julian Rivera (13-8-1, 2 KO) will be fighting Joebert Alvarez (13-0-1, 6 KO) for the vacant WBC Continental Americas flyweight title.  Although the title doesn't mean a damn thing that doesn't mean the fight doesn't.  Alvarez is an undefeated fighter and hopes to stay that way.  He is Filipino and has never fought outside of his native country while Rivera who is Mexican has only one fight out of his native country.  On Friday night the fight will be in Mexico City so it will be Rivera who is the hometown fighter with all the supporters.  Along with the hometown advantage Rivera will also have an advantage in experience inside the ring.  Rivera has faced a few good fighters in the flyweight and super bantamweight divisions such as Matthew Villanueva and Juan Carlos Reveco while Alvarez hasn't fought anyone of note and most of his wins have come against below average opposition.  Often times a fighter from the Philippines who has a good record gets exposed when he leaves his country to face better opposition the same thing happens to many fighters from Ghana, so while Alvarez is undefeated it might just be fools gold.  Alvarez has the faster hands in this fight but he is also the wilder fighter.  Rivera doesn't have lightning fast hands but he puts punches together well and his punches are sharp.  While Rivera has lost 8 times only 1 of those was by knockout and that came in the second bout of his career so his chin isn't terrible, Alvarez on the other hand has never lost but has been down on a few occasions.  Both of these fighters are far from elite and will probably never fight for a legitimate title but they could still give fans a good show on Friday night.  I don't expect Alvarez to get completely exposed in this fight, meaning he won't get blown away within a few rounds.  However I do think the experience against better fighters and a more conventional style will allow Rivera to win this fight by the way of majority decision.
