UniMas Quick Pick

Perez will be looking to win his 5th in a row
Alejandro Perez vs. Juan Carlos Martinez: With a busy weekend of boxing it is understandable that you won't be able to watch every fight.  If you have to miss any make it this Saturday's UniMas card.  Not that it's a horrible fight but it is really just a stay busy/showcase fight for Alejandro Perez (19-3-1, 13 KO).  The main event will feature Perez squaring off against the well past his prime Juan Carlos Martinez (19-14-1, 7 KO) in a 10 round junior lightweight bout.  Perez has some talent but he needs to prove he is more than a B-level fighter.  He has fought solid competition throughout his career but when he has taken a small step up against the likes of a Rico Ramos or Diego Magdaleno he has lost.  Perez does have some pop on his punches for a smaller fighter but he doesn't always turn them over and often time lands slapping blows.  If Perez were to work on really turning over his punches he would have much better power.  He also tends to lunge forward when he throws his right hand which leaves him wide open for a right hand counter attack.  One thing he does well is dig to the body but again that body attack would be much more effective if he turned over his punches.  While Perez does have three losses he has never been knocked out which is a good sign going forward.  His opponent hasn't been so lucky.  Martinez has fourteen losses and four of them have been by knockout.  The reason this is a stay busy/showcase fight for Perez is because Martinez hasn't fought since 2012 and is coming off back to back losses.  Martinez does however have a big advantage as far as experience.  He has fought Mikey Garcia, Juan Carlos Burgos, Victor Terrazas, and Antonio DeMarco but unfortunately has lost to all of them.  Martinez likes to move a lot in the ring and has a high punch output but he leaves himself wide open when he throws combinations.  When you haven't fought in two years it may not be the best idea to make your return to the ring against a younger power puncher so Martinez will have his hands full.  I don't think Martinez has much, if anything left and Perez should be able to win this fight by the way of 9th round knockout.
