Fox Deportes Quick Picks

Castellanos hasn't lost in 4 years
Robinson Castellanos vs. Rene Alvarado: It is hard to start off a career as badly as Robinson Castellanos (19-9, 12 KO) did.  In his first 13 career fights he went  5-8 and was knocked out four times.  However Castellanos has been able to salvage his career and he is carrying an 11 fight winning streak into the ring and hasn't lost a fight in four years.  He will be facing off against Rene Alvarado (19-2, 13 KO) in a 12 round featherweight fight.  The featherweight division is one of the deepest in the sport and both men will be going all out for a win that might propel them into the mix.  Castellanos has come a long way but his flaws are still evident, like his lack of head movement that gets him caught way to often upstairs.  But he has some bright spots to, like how well he puts his punches together.  One factor in this fight could be stamina.  Castellanos has gone 12 rounds ten time while Alvarado has never gone 12 and has only been ten on a few occasions.  But Alvarado isn't a fighter who expends a lot of energy, he is smart with his workload and doesn't throw punches unnecessarily.  One reason Alvarado doesn't stay as busy as Castellanos is because he has legitimate power.  That power should play a huge role in this fight because Castellanos has a horrible chin.  Castellanos may get off to a fast start in this fight and put some early rounds in the bank with his high punch output but his luck won't last.  Alvarado should be able to make use of his excellent power and catch Castellanos flat footed.  I expect Alvarado to win this fight by the way of 7th round knockout.

Manzanarez is a knockout machine
Robert Manzanarez vs. Carlos Rodriguez: The other fight on Saturday's Fox Deportes card features the one fighter you don't want to miss, Robert Manzanarez (25-1, 21 KO).  He will be challenged by Carlos Rodriguez (8-0, 3 KO) in a 10 round lightweight battle.  Manzanarez has already proven himself to be a very exciting fighter with good speed and great power.  One thing the young fighter should do is throw his jab more often, it could be a big weapon for him moving forward.  Manzanarez is a tall fighter for his division and extremely lanky but looks can be deceiving because often if is the lanky fighters who possess the most power.  He has only lost once and he avenged that loss to Alejandro Barrera with a convincing 3rd round knockout.  Across the ring from Manzanarez will be Rodriguez who will be trying to remain unbeaten.  That will be easier said than done because this will be Rodriguez's first 10 round fight and Manzanarez will be a big step up for him.  As of know Rodriguez has only fought "tomato cans" with losing records.  This fight is scheduled for 10 rounds but it probably won't go past 5.  Rodriguez has no real power for Manzanarez to respect so the more powerful fighter can simply go on the attack from the opening bell.  I expect Manzanarez to look spectacular again, this time scoring a 4th round knockout.
