UniMas Quick Picks

David Sanchez vs. Marco Demecillo: Lately it seems that boxing fans have had a plethora of fights to choose from every weekend, and this weekend will be no different.  On Saturday alone there will be three fight cards, all of which should provide good action.  Certainly the card that UniMas is putting on is not to be missed, especially since the start time on the east coast is 12 at night after the other cards have ended.  The UniMas card will be headlined by two fighters in the junior bantamweight division who punch like much bigger men.  Those fighters are David "Torando" Sanchez (23-2-2, 18 KO) and Marco Demecillo (19-1-1, 14 KO) who will go toe to toe for 12 rounds in the hopes of winning the vacant WBA International super flyweight title.  For casual fans of the sport super flyweight and junior bantamweight are the same weight class.  Both of these fighters like to look for the knockout but they go about it in very different ways.  Sanchez is a whirling dervish of a fighter.  When he goes on the attack his defense goes out the window and he really lets his off hand drift away from his body instead of keeping in firmly planted near his chin.  Sanchez throws wide, crazy looking punches and while he isn't the most skilled fighter he is a very fun to watch, especially for fans of brawls.  Demecillo on the other hand isn't as wild as Sanchez and doesn't throw as many punches.  He likes to pick his spots and throws short, strong punches.  In a fight like this that is sure to be all action the lack punch output could hurt Demecillo if the fight goes to the cards.  Both fighters have good chins and have never been knocked out so look for the early rounds to start slowly as both fighters try to figure the other out until the action really picks up.  I'm expecting a good action fight albeit with some sloppy looking punches.  Demecillo may have the crisper punches but Sanchez will stay true to his nickname and attack Demecillo like a tornado and overwhelm him on his way to a majority decision win.

Felipe Orucuta vs. Efrain Perez: Another notable fight on this card will also take place in the junior bantamweight division but this bout will only go 10 rounds.  It will see power punching Felipe Orucuta (28-2, 23 KO) face off against Efrain Perez (16-4, 11 KO).  Orucuta is a good fighter who has some good wins under his belt and has had some top fights most notable against Omar Andres Narvaez and at 28 years older is ready for some big things.  Perez, at 25 years old will also be looking to take a step forward in his career and is carrying a six fight win streak, however he hasn't faced the same talent level that Orucuta has and this should be the toughest fight of his career.  Orucuta is a good fighter who has this sort of nervous movement when he is in the ring which is actually just effective defense.  He also has one punch knockout type power that isn't seen often in the lower weight classes.  If he were to get past Perez it could set up an interesting fight with the winner of the main event on this card.  Perez also has some pretty good pop on his punches but it isn't anywhere near the power that Orucuta possesses.  Perez has also been knocked out so his chin is a question mark and that is a question that should be answered very quickly by the power punching Orucuta.  This fight may be competitive for a round or two but things should be pretty one sided after that.  I expect Orucuta to win this fight in impressive fashion by the way of 4th round knockout.
