Friday Night Fights Quick Picks

John Molina vs. Andrey Klimov: The main event of this weeks Friday Night Fights card is a quality 10 round match-up between California based lightweight John Molina (25-2, 20 KO) and tough Russian Andrey Klimov (15-0, 8 KO).  This should prove to be a solid action fight considering Molina's propensity for close range fights, and as boxing fans have learned recently, Russian fighters are always ready for a slugfest.  Both men are 30 years old and are looking to fight for a title in the near future.  Yet neither boxer has ever been really tested in the ring.  The closest Molina came to a challenge was against top lightweight Antonio DeMarco but that fight ended in 1st round TKO when DeMarco caught Molina in the corner and landed a hailstorm of punches until the referee jumped in to stop it, so fans still don't know how Molina might look against top tier talent.  Klimov has spent most of his career in Russia so he has been in some tought brawls, but they all came against lesser opponents.  Whoever is the busier fighter on Friday and controls the pace should get a solid win.  I expect that fighter to be John Molina, winning by majority decision.

Farah Ennis vs. Anthony Hanshaw: The other notable fight this Friday is a match-up of super middleweights in a 10 round bout.  It features Farah Ennis (20-1, 12 KO) taking on Anthony Hanshaw (23-2-2, 14 KO).  This fight is a crossroads fight with Ennis looking to make a name for himself in the super middleweight rankings and Hanshaw who is 35 years old, just looking to hang on to a dwindling career.  Neither fighter has ever really been tested and Friday will be no different.  If Ennis is going to be a contender at super middleweight he needs to beat Hanshaw and make it look easy.  Even though Ennis isn't yet a legit contender if Hanshaw were to beat him it would be a big upset and could land him some more fights.  However I think Ennis will handle Hanshaw on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
