Weekend Wrap-Up

  • There wasn't much action last week to discuss but there is some housekeeping that needs to be done from the previous week.  On the undercard of the pay-per-view fight between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev there was a fight between Guillermo Rigondeaux and Moises Flores.  That fight was ruled a knockout win for Rigondeaux after a punch he threw knocked Flores out after the bell while both men were throwing punches.  That ruling has now been changed to a no contest but don't expect a rematch as Rigondeaux is hoping for bigger, more important fights.

  • In action last week was veteran heavyweight Derric Rossy.  Rossy was in the main event of a CBS Sports card and he took on the one-loss power punching Carlos Negron.  Rossy usually gives his opponent a tough night, even in a loss but he wasn't able to give Negron any problems.  In the second round Negron dropped Rossy and things wouldn't get much better for the veteran fighter as he was dropped again in the fourth round, giving Negron the stoppage win.

  • Last week's other fight aired on beIN Sports Espanol.  That fight was a 10-round bout from the junior welterweight division between Carlos Diaz and Sergio Puentes.  At just 22 years old, Diaz was looking to keep his perfect record intact and on Saturday night Puentes didn't do much to ruin it.  The fight did go the distance but Diaz controlled the action from the opening bell to the final bell and he was able to keep his record perfect in victory.
