CBS Sports Quick Pick

Derric Rossy vs. Carlos Negron: There won't be many fights this weekend but some fights are better than none.  On Saturday night CBS Sports will air a card headlined by a 10-round bout from the heavyweight division.  In that main event will be Derric Rossy (31-12, 15 KO) and Carlos Negron (19-1, 15 KO).  Rossy is now a 36-year-old journeyman who has faced some notable opponents in Eddie Chambers, Vyacheslav Glazkov, and Bermane Stiverne.  Negron is only 29 years old but he has yet to face any notable opponents.  His resume is filled with both good and bad opponents and his last two opponents had records of 0-33 and 17-0.  Negron has also spent long stretches of his career fighting as a cruiserweight despite being 6-feet 6-inches tall with a reach of 83-inches.  That makes him much rangier than the 6-feet 3-inch Rossy who has a reach of just 76-inches.  Rossy doesn't carry much power but he does have some skills and he likes to work behind his jab out of the orthodox stance.  He does some of his best work with his right hand though which he will throw straight behind the jab or crooked downstairs.  However, in his last 10 fights Rossy has gone 3-7 so he could be ripe for the picking for Negron.  Negron has fought in 2017 yet but in 2016 he went 3-0, scoring three knockouts all of which came before the third round.  Negron, also an orthodox fighter, has much more pop on his punches than Rossy does and he likes to use his jab as a measuring stick for his right hand.  Along with that solid right hand Negron also loves to dig his left hook to the body but he can get a bit wild with his punches.  If Negron wings wild shots look for Rossy to pick him apart.  However, if Negron doesn't get too wild and works the body he will win this fight by the way of unanimous decision.
