CBS Sports Quick Pick

Franco landing a stiff straight right hand
Daniel Franco vs. Jose Haro: On Saturday night CBS Sports will air a fight card whose main event features two fighters with just two losses between them.  Those fighters are Daniel Franco (16-1-3, 11 KO) and Jose Haro (13-1-1, 7 KO) and they are scheduled to go 10 rounds from the featherweight division, one of the deepest and most talented divisions in the sport.  Neither Franco or Haro has faced anyone of note and they each probably represent the other's best opponent to date.  Franco is an orthodox boxer with just slightly more power than Haro.  Franco likes to take the lead in his fights and he will work behind a jab that help sets up his combinations.  The 25-year-old has a nice short left hook and a stiff straight right hand but he doesn't have very fast hands.  On the inside Franco will also sneak in uppercuts and he puts in pretty good work to the body.  However, because he likes to put his punches together and doesn't have very fast hands he does leave himself open to return fire and he was knocked out just two fights ago.  Haro is also an orthodox fighter and he is five years older than Franco although they both turned pro in 2010.  What Haro lacks in power he will look to make up for with superior speed against Franco.  The 30-year-old likes to work behind an up and down jab and he often follows it with a right hand.  Haro also throws a quick left hook and he is lighter on his feet than Franco is but he isn't as busy with his punches.  To win this fight Haro will need to be much busier than usual and that lack of punch output will be his downfall.  Franco likes to throw combinations and he will put enough punches together to get the very close unanimous decision victory.
