Weekend Wrap-Up

  • Big Time Boxing only covered two fights last week but the winner in both of those fights really made a statement.  On Friday Dmitry Bivol faced off against Samuel Clarkson in the main event of a ShoBox: The New Generation card on Showtime.  Clarkson was supposed to be a tough test for Bivol and a fighter capable of ruining Bivol's perfect record but he was anything but.  Bivol dropped Clarkson twice in the first round and again in the fourth to end the fight.  The straight right hand of Bivol couldn't miss and he looked like a poised veteran once he had Clarkson hurt.  For many fans it was there first time seeing Bivol on TV but many will surely want to see him again after a performance like that.

  • On Saturday night another fighter looking to make a statement, Sullivan Barrera, took on Paul Parker in the main event of an HBO Latino card.  Barrera was coming of an impressive stoppage win over Vyacheslav Shabranskyy which came after a lopsided loss to Andre Ward.  Barrera was at his best against Shabranskyy and continued looking good on Saturday against Parker.  The end for Parker started with a short left hook from Barrera that hurt him and when Barrera followed up with a right hand he dropped Parker.  Moments later Barrera landed another big right hand that stunned Parker and when he followed up the ref stopped the fight.  That makes two impressive stoppage victories in a row for Barrera who should now look for a big name fight.
