PBC on FS1 Quick Pick

Edner Cherry vs. Omar Douglas: On Tuesday night the PBC will return to Fox Sports 1 with a card headlined by a fight between Edner Cherry (35-7-2, 19 KO) and Omar Douglas (17-1, 12 KO).  That fight is scheduled to go 10 rounds from the lightweight division where both men are trying to work their way towards a title shot.  Cherry last fought for a title in 2008 against Timothy Bradley and lost that fight by the way of unanimous decision.  Douglas has never fought for a title and his career hit a speed bump when he lost his last fight against Javier Fortuna.  At 34 years old Cherry has been around a lot longer than Douglas and is eight years his senior.  Cherry fights out of the orthodox stance and he likes to come forward.  Cherry likes to use his jab to set up a big overhand right but since he loves to come forward he is also there to be hit.  He also has a wide left hook and he fights like a puncher despite not being very heavy handed.  While he does have seven career losses to his name he has never been knocked out and he has only been dropped twice in 44 career bouts.  Douglas is also an orthodox fighter and he will be the heavier handed fighter in this fight.  Douglas works behind a nice jab and at times has shown a solid straight right hand, although he doesn't use that punch as much as he should.  He also has an overhand right that is heavier than his straight right and although his left hook comes in wide it can do damage.  Douglas has never been down in his career but he also hasn't fought a very high level of opposition until meeting Fortuna.  Douglas may be the older fighter but that also means he is much more experienced and he has fought much better foes than Douglas.  It will be a close fight for all 10 rounds but Cherry will come away the winner by the way of split decision.
