UniMas Quick Pick

Vences lands a left hook
Andy Vences vs. Angel Hernandez: One of Friday's other fights will air on UniMas and it could end up being a showcase fight for Andy Vences (17-0, 10 KO).  Vences will be taking on Angel Hernandez (13-7-1, 8 KO) in a fight scheduled to go 10 rounds from the junior lightweight division.  The reason it could be a showcase is because Vences is undefeated and is coming off a nice win over Casey Ramos.  Meanwhile, Hernandez is 4-4-1 in his last 10 fights and while he did score four knockouts he fought mostly weak competition and his last two opponents had a combined record of 3-10-1.  Vences is a 25-year-old orthodox boxer and he has a quick measuring stick jab that helps set up a stiff straight right hand.  Vences also has a solid left hook and he does a nice job of moving his punches upstairs and downstairs and has shown quick hands.  As for Hernandez, he has a decent jab but he lacks the quickness that Vences possesses and he doesn't move very well in the ring either.  Often times Hernandez will just sit behind the high guard and wait for his opponent to finish punching.  If he does that against Vences he could find himself in some serious trouble.  Hernandez is not very skilled and he also isn't a heavy hitter so expect Vences to have an easy time on his way to a wide unanimous decision victory.
